Publisher's summary

When the Little Nugget, alias thirteen-year-old Ogden Ford, "bulgy, rude, chain-smoking son of an American millionaire," arrives at Sanstead House School, the fun begins. Mr Peter Burns, a none-too-dedicated schoolmaster, engaged by snobbish Mr. Abney to educate his handpicked pupils, soon finds himself and his enraptured class at the mercy of an American gunman...and at the beginning of a series of truly mind-boggling adventures in a delicious Wodehouse tale of suspense, excitement, and romance.

Good story, boring narration

I'm a big PG Wodehouse reader, but this was a new story for me. I liked it, not one of his best, but still worthwhile. The narrator had a boring tone, however, and that made it a little harder to enjoy.

An early treasure

Wodehouse’s wit may not yet be at its wittiest in this young novelist’s prototype, but hints of his gentle humor glint off it, especially with Davidson’s arch and excellent re-telling.

Sounds like it was recorded in the 1920s

The recording is horrible -- it sounds like Davidson is talking through a tunnel. Hold off for a recording by someone else or read the book. This one isn't worth listening to. I've never had problems with sound quality from audible. They shouldn't be offering this one. It's not up to their standards.

The Little Nugget

This recording is awful and I would never buy it again. It does not matter what device I play it on it is so terrible that I can't understand what is being said. I wanted to hear it as I really like most of Wodehouse's books. I think audible flunked on this one! It may or may not be a good book, how would anyone know if all they had was the audible copy? Wait till you can get another version from someone else.

Not what you would call a plum

Zero Stars- Do not bother.

First, the quality of sound is horrible - I have to listen to each bit at least twice to understand most of it. This is not due to the level 2 recording - I have a few #2s that are quite understandable, but it sounds like a tape recording of a tape recording of a tape recording...

Second, this story also lacks humor. None of the characters are likeable, the story is of mean people doing mean things to other mean people. I'd guess Plum was having a particularly bad time when writing this - or perhaps it was really penned by Sir Frances Bacon.

I've managed to get about halfway through, and do not intend to go on. In fact, I'd get my money back if I could.
