About this listen

The Lords of Discipline is, simply, an American classic.” -- Larry King

The Lords of Discipline is a novel about coming of age, brotherhood, betrayal, and a man’s forging of his own personal code of honor. Will McLean, a senior on the cadets’ honor court, is an outsider by nature: a basketball star at a school that prizes military prowess above athletics, a military man in training who dares to question the escalating Vietnam war. And yet his greatest struggle will be with the corrupt institution of which he is a part. Rich in humor and suspense, abounding in a rare honesty and generosity of feeling, this novel established Pat Conroy as one of the strongest fictional voices in a generation.

“A work of enormous power, passion, humor, and wisdom.” – Washington Star

“God preserve Pat Conroy.” – Boston Globe

Riveting

Slow first 20 minutes but then it was fast paced and stark with its brutality and deep friendships.

Slow burn but so good

Slow in the beginning and few slow spots in the middle but such a great story. Narration was perfect! Absolutely perfect!

Never disappointed with Pat Conroy

He can weave a story that pulls you in so completely that you don’t want put it down or, in this case, turn it off! Very well narrated, too.

Better for Men

Always enjoy his writing style & sort telling. This book took me awhile to get into because of the soldier, men only school etc but then it took off!

Well done Pat,

Brought back a lot of my own memories, not so tragic though. For my own classmates, Green and Purple of the Laurel.

The best voice actor, telling a very well written story.

Pat Conroy’s prose and thoughtfully written life of a student in a military college. Is both thought provoking, and memorable.
The voices and acting of the many different people and situations is truly remarkable.

Amazing author

I just found Pat Conroy, I’m not even certain how. Sometimes I buy several books at once & throw them in my library, but I don’t recall buying my first Contoy book. Only that I hoped it was good because it was LONG. It was Prince of Tides. Unbelievable. Must read. Moved on to The Lords of Discipline & am now searching for the next one of his to enjoy. I love new stories, unique twists & the depth of characters you get in a Conroy book. I enjoy the endings that leave me thinking. Some things are wrapped up neatly, while others are left for interpretation. Go on the journey, this narrator is so easy to listen to it feels like a fire on a cold winters day: crackling and slow burning at times & roaring away at others.
