About this listen

"The book offers a different experience from the film since it can obviously go into much more detail," says Rob Zombie. "The book and the film really complement each other."

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood....

The Lords of Salem Heidi Hawthorne is a 37-year-old FM radio DJ and a recovering drug addict. Struggling with her newfound sobriety and creeping depression, Heidi suddenly receives an anonymous gift at the station-a mysteriously shaped wooden box branded with a strange symbol. Inside the box is a promotional record for a band that identifies themselves only as The Lords. There is no other information.

She decides to play it on the radio show as a joke, and the moment she does, horrible things begin to happen. The strange music awakens something evil in the town. Soon enough, terrifying murders begin to happen all around Heidi. Who are The Lords? What do they want?

As old bloodlines are awakened and the bodies start to pile up, only one thing seems certain: All hell is about to break loose.

Wow - wasted potential

I really wanted to loke this book but at the end all I felt was disappointed and it felt depressing as "hell". i suppose that was the desired effect no matter how stupid that desire is. Still even sticking to that result it could have been a much better story with just a little more imagination.

Anyone for a fresh pot of Tea ?

The book fills in the gaps from the movie, gives a more flushed out backstory for characters.
B.K Evans contributions really brings the horror to this tale, of a witch's revenge.
Erin Bennett kills it as the Narrator.
Zombie fan decently worth checking out.

Darkly Creepy

Definitely a great Halloween read if there ever was one. Rob Zombie doesn't disappoint here. The story was a bit dark and gruesomein some places but overall a great fun read. It might be disturbing to some, but it definitely is better than the movie. And, there are a few twists that keep you firmly glued to the story.

the end

I know the topic might seem overdone but in the dead-ass fashion of the author, it made its point, directly into my brain. I had high expectations for this book. they were met at the end. I felt some pretty vivid emotions after i finished. I'm not going to lie, there is a couple spots where it seemed to be filler but I was engrossed. glad I got to experiance this book.

Dissapointed

Story was lacking in vital details and overboard on junk details. Story line and setting was good, but details were not.

Much more indepth than the movie

What made the experience of listening to The Lords of Salem the most enjoyable?

Having seen the movie and having vastly enjoyed the movie, it was interesting comparing this novel, which was the original draft, to the movie. To see what scenes were left out, what scenes were added, and what was altered in the film. I can see, budget wise, why changes were made, but I do believe this was the best draft and what Zombie should have followed in his bringing this great story to the main screen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

"Black Herman" struck me as a fantastic character. His final moments are definately, well at least for me, the most emotional in the entire story.

What three words best describe Erin Bennett’s voice?

Tries. Too. Hard.

Who was the most memorable character of The Lords of Salem and why?

All of the cast is certainly memorable in their own way. They each have certain nuances that the bring to the story, and honestly the story wouldn't be the same without them.

The Ending Sucked

The ending ruined it for me. Weak lead roles who didn't fight back making it lame.

Ho Hum

Really disappointing effort from Rob Zombie. Whole story was just background for gore. What did I expect? Gore, sure but storytelling would have also been nice.

Really BAD!!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Three attempts to finish the book.... The only reason I did it is was because Rob Zombie wrote it. Witches' Sabbaths that nobody ever heard of, poor or no research, and slot of splatter. This is better as a movie i think, the bright side is that your not going to have hight expectation then you watch the movie.

What didn’t you like about Erin Bennett’s performance?

Yes

Any additional comments?

No research.
