About this listen

2018. When a skeleton is found entangled in the roots of an ancient tree on Rhys Morgan’s country estate, Quinn is persuaded to come out of retirement to film one more episode of the Echoes from the Past series. But the nameless skeleton proves to be the least of her problems when secrets from the past suddenly come to light and a new threat looms over her family.

1777. Washed up on a Long Island beach after a terrible storm, Alice has no recollection of her life before the shipwreck. But as she slowly pieces together the events that led to the fateful voyage, she comes to realize that not only is she in terrible danger, but the child she’s carrying might not have been conceived in love.

Perfect for fans of Susanna Kearsley and Kate Morton.

Thank you! Irina Shapiro! Awesome Job Wendy Wolfson!

Irina Shapiro is on a whole new level of storytelling! Thank you for giving us that needed happy ending! “The Lost” is an excellent story featuring past favorites and a few new characters. If you haven’t read any of Irina Shapiro books before....it’s always best to start from the beginning with the 1st in her echoes of the past series “The Lovers” there are 9 books in all but each could be stand alones. However, if you like the first your going to love them each in order. The Narration by Wendy Wolfson is excellent and you’re going to feel like your watching a movie —well at lest I did.....as always a big fat 5 star...and a request for book 10 in this series.

Wow! This is my favorite Shapiro series!

Throughout this series I have grown to love Quinn and her gift/curse. To have the ability to see the life of one long passed is enchanting until the seer has to witness dreadful, horrid events that happen to the long dead victim. The dual timelines work in all of these books and I love character development. Quinn, Gabe, Jo, Sylvia, Reece, Seth, Brett, etc are all 3 dimensional characters that add depth to the stories. I can’t help wanting more editions from the author, especially since I know a new era of psychics have been born! As always, the narrator is AMAZING!

Twists and turns

Enjoyed this book as I have all Irina Shapiro’s books.
The story keeps you engaged and intrigued. The narrator is great but I do wish she would give the characters in different books slightly different inflection in their voices. Detectives all have the same nasally voice. I do recommend this and all the books in the series.

Wonderful listening experience, as usual!

Irina Shapiro's Echoes series have been of consistently high quality since book one and the latest one is no exception. She manages to find a balance between telling the story of the past and the present without giving a feeling of interrupting the storyline.

The only thing that I found a bit tedious was the frequent depictions of Quinn's children and the tedium of her and Gabe's family life in general, as their budding romance in the initial books was much more interesting.

Overall, plenty of suspense & drama, nicely tied up in the end, while leaving a possibility for a continuation of the series.

Great Conclusion to the series (although I hope there is more)

Excellent conclusion to am amazing series! As always dual story lines which keeps me interested and feels like two books in one. Everything is nicely wrapped up with HEA all around, at least for those that deserve it and as always, Wendy was amazing with the narration

What a Fantastic Series!

If you like historical fiction and forensic pathology with a psychic twist, Irina Shapiro’s series is for you. She creates believable, complex protagonists motivated by personal happiness and despicable antagonists, and including 2-3 plot lines is well organized within different chapters. I’ve learned more history by listening to this series, and I hope the imaginary BBC series actually becomes one. Brava, Irina Shapiro!

Wonderful!

This is definitely one of my favorites from the series. I love the twist and turns that the book takes. I’m always happy yet sad when these books end. Loved the book!

Great, but...

... I felt robbed by the ending.

Shapiro is fantastic at creating historical mysteries, and this book is no exception. However, where she usually provides satisfying and often surprising endings, this one is a real let down.

If you've read this series from the start, you know that the epilogue is usually the "real" or complete ending that only the reader is privvy to. In this book Shapiro provided a happy ending for the 18thce characters in the chapter *preceding* the epilogue, making it unclear if its Quinn & Rhys's fake ending or the "real" one. Then, in the epilogue, the ending is supplemented with a bizarre NDE beckoning that casts doubt on everything, and makes no sense from a psychological or plot standpoint. 😫🥺😫
