Publisher's summary

It is now six years since the secret disaster at Jurassic Park; six years since that extraordinary dream of science and imagination came to a crashing end - the dinosaurs destroyed, the park dismantled, the island indefinitely closed to the public. There are rumors that something has survived. Michael Crichton is at it again. The Lost World continues the horrifying and thrilling tale begun in Jurassic Park.

Meh

Heald is a bit too much of a thespian for my taste... A little too strong on the voice acting.

Also, far from Chrichton's best work...

Good story, bad read

The reader/performer has an incredibly inconsistent cadence that seems to mostly disregard punctuation, adding weight to the mundane and skimming over what should be tense scenes. It completely ruined the story.

A tacked on adventure

I feel this novel is more of a draft of the eventual screenplay than a fleshed out story like the original. I didn't feel like there was anything for Crichton to examine with this story and it was quite sad as a massive fan of Jurassic Park.

It’s abridged, but still an adrenaline rush

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend the unabridged version, but this version was still a terrific listen. It’s still full of science, thrill, and uh...lots of hungry dinosaurs.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Angry, hungry dinosaurs will keep anyone on edge I think.

Any additional comments?
The Lost World: Abridged takes all of the excellent plot twists and science from the original piece and creates a movie length listen. I felt the theatrical release paled in comparison. An excellent listen for those who loves dinosaurs, science, action, stowaway juvenile heroes and did I say action?

A thin sequel to a great book

Zero to no character development or deeper story but a fun romp in this world nonetheless.

The unabridged is great, but...

I prefer the abridged version. The narrator is incredible and I’ve been a fan of his for years. I also don’t want to have to break up a 15 hour audiobook over days... 4ush hour’s is enough to get the main points and feel like I’m listening to a movie. Don’t get me wrong: I love the full unabridged story. But sometimes I just want a quickie story and don’t need to know what color a character’s sneakers are.

N

Lousy narrator in this particular instance
If there is a fifteen-word, does it matter how many letters are in each word?

Anthony Heald, awesome as always.

As usual Anthony Heald knocks one out of the park, by far my favorite reader/narrator. As with all his works it is a joy and a pleasure to listen to him.

A man of many voices

If I were to choose the best reader I've listened to, as a seasoned audiobook fan, it would have to be Anthony Heald, And it would be his performance reading The Lost World that convinced me of this. And yes, I said performance, because that is indeed what it is. The obvious commitment and energy that he put into this project is commendable. His voices are superb, so much so that I felt I was right there with them on that island. I am also an avid Crichton reader, and enjoyed reading The Lost World, but it wasn't until listening to Heald that it became a favorite. All in all, this is the tape that made me fall in love with audiobooks, and I would suggest it to anyone and everyone interested in hearing great audiobook talent.
