About this listen

Whenever You're Ready tells the story of Dyana Jackson, who never thought the impromptu performance at her brother’s wedding would turn into an opportunity to sing professionally. And she never thought accepting would cause problems within her marriage. Somehow, she has to decide between living out her long-buried dream, or giving into the demands of those she loves most.

It's What We Do features the story of Layla Blue, who has always had one goal. Use her gymnastic skills to earn a college scholarship. But somehow, she finds herself a member of her new school’s cheerleading team. And dating the quarterback. Will she thrive in her new situation, or will the longing for her old life ruin what she’s found?

Beautifully written, beautifully narrated

This book has been languishing in my audible library since January. I am so angry with myself for overlooking it.

It was really good. Very relatable characters who were surprisingly well developed, seeing as these were 2 “short stories”. It did not leave me hanging as far as details, as some short stories tend to do.

I will definitely seek out this author and this narrator again. I enjoyed both stories very much!

Family is important

I enjoyed reading about these two.families. I love the story of a romance between married couples, and musician heroes are my favorite. Layla's parents were sweet, too. I enjoyed learning about cheerleading and gymnastics.

2 great stories

I don't usually read this type of book but I am glad I read this one. The author did a great job creating likeable characters in a real life situation. The first one about a woman who had a great opportunity to do something she loved but at what cost? Does she make her family stuffer or follow her dreams? The second one about a pair of young people falling in love & some sacrifices a long the way. In the end an injury for Lela. Will her gymnastics career be over? The narrator did an excellent job as well. I highly recommend this book.

A sweet escape from real-life

The book contains two novellas - first the story of Dyana Jackson and her chance to follow her own dream (for the first time in her life) after a video of her singing at her brothers wedding gets into the hands of a play director (musical theater). She has always supported the dreams of her husband and family, and now that it's her turn, her home life becomes strained. I loved how the play in which Dyana has the lead contains parallels between the plot and Dyana's life.

The second story had a weaker plot, but I still enjoyed the story. Layla has recently completed her freshman year of college and her family has moved to another part of the country. She goes with so she is not alone, but she struggles in the new school. She has obtained a scholarship for gymnastics, but there isn't a place for her on the team - though the coach of team asks her to send a tape and he'll consider her for the following year. Knowing she needs to practice, she tries out for and joins the cheerleading squat - where she can utilize her skills. Unfortunately, the other members are far from accepting. Fortunately, the quarterback of the football team has taken a keen interest in her, and their relationship blooms throughout the story.

Both stories were very sweet, though not without trials to get through. For me, they made for a great escape from the real world for a time.

Two great stories!

The fact that these two stories were narrated by one person and yet the characters were so unique and special, is a direct testament to how great the narrator is. A good narrator can deliver believable characters. A great narrator can do so with two different stories, back to back. Consider my imaginary hat tipped.

Two engaging novellas in one book

This is a delightful pair of books. The writing and story telling is engaging and I was happy to be pulled into these stories. The first story, about a grown wife and mother, rediscovering a hidden talent and loving it, was out of the ordinary and very relatable.

I received copies of the audiobook from the author and I was pleased with the quality of the audio and the narrator did a great job. I love her voice and she made the characters come alive.

I recommend this book for readers in most age groups.

This is my honest opinion.
