About this listen

Scarred by her mother's betrayal, Brittany Iverson left home half a lifetime ago for the promise of California, with its vibrant, cosmopolitan lesbian community. She wouldn't go back to Kentucky for a million dollars. But several million? That's a different kettle of fish. All Britt has to do is help resurrect her father's failing business so they can sell it to the highest bidder.

Thanks to a college softball scholarship, Ninah Faust escaped her upbringing as well, leaving Eastern Kentucky's impoverished coal country for the quaint small town of Leland. Now a high-school history teacher, she enjoys a laid-back lifestyle, a close-knit circle of lesbian friends, and the Longdogs, Leland's minor-league baseball team. Ninah knows better than to fall for newcomer Britt, whose plan is to get in, get rich, and get out. Britt knows better, too, since the last thing she needs is a girlfriend in Kentucky. But fall they do - so which one will give up her perfect life for the other?

The Lucky Ones marks a return to the idyllic hamlet of Leland, Kentucky, where you're sure to run into the town's most prominent lesbian couple - Justine Hall and Carly Griffin, from The House on Sandstone.

Great to see the other side

A great story about acceptance and inclusion told from the LBGTQ+ side.
I was so happy to have a character who was mad about MAGA and the hate they inspire while everyone is saying we need to accept those who aren’t accepting of others.
It was also nice to have a book that pushed back on bible thumping and on church itself for not being inclusive no matter what they preach.

This romance hits it right out of the ballpark and into your heart!

KG MacGregor has written a home run with a ball park romance that goes straight to the heart of what’s important in our country, small town to big city. Yes ladies, there are some spicy innings but this book also holds up a mirror to all of us, however affiliated by faith, family, race, socio-economic status, career or who we love, in the hopes of us seeing and being the better part of ourselves! The characters in this book are fun, interesting and well written! They struggle with their issues in a realistic manner and nothing here is contrived for the sake of angst or drama. The narration is outstanding and added much to the listening experience! It is simply a well-told story that needs be told over and over! I will be looking for more books by this author! Highly recommend!

Wish there was a sequel

I loved this book, heartbreaking, beautiful, and real. The emotions that come with returning to the place you grew up knowing it no longer feels like home were conveyed so well. I wish there was another book where we could see the continuation of the story and all of the wonderful characters within

Great story

Loved the athletic portions and the multiple love stories, especially the friendships!
The story could have continued as I loved the characters.

Narrator

A little too saintly. Lots of crime, with little punishment. Has all the makings of a really good plot, but failed to deliver.

Love the baseball theme

What a wonderful story with so many complex subjects- LGBTQ children, religious intolerance, racism, bullying, and violence. A father - daughter relationship that is supportive in many ways coupled with a strong lesbian community made this a must read for me. I thoroughly enjoyed how the author brought these tough subjects out into the light for discussion. I cannot wait to read more from her. I hope that she builds future stories around this fantastic group of characters.

Great Politics!

Good character development and handling of sensitive topics such as racism, sexism, homophobia, misogamy, religious bigotry, etc.

Worst fake accent ever!

Had the reader just related the story in her normal voice, I would have been able to listen to the end.

Too much bashing

Not everyone on the right is the devil. Damn. But I understand trying to reach the audience you are wanting to reach. Wish I could’ve finished it. Just got tired of you calling me a piece of sh@t.
