About this listen

In L. E. Modesitt, Jr.'s The Magic Engineer, Dorrin, a young scion of Order magicians, is interested in forbidden knowledge - the working of machines.

He is the Leonardo da Vinci of his age, but his insights violate the rules of the Order magic of Recluce, and in order to pursue his invention he must go into exile - in the lands of Chaos.

Tortured by the knowledge that to preserve Order he must create new devices for war, Dorrin stands between Recluce and the forces of the Chaos that seek to destroy it.

"An intriguing fantasy in a fascinating world." (Robert Jordan, New York Times best-selling author of The Wheel of Time® series)

Great Saga

Oran a young black wizard of order, is exiled because of his so-called chaos tendencies, He must come to terms with his nature and and that of the balance of the world. He must do things that hurt him to protect those he loves. He wants to build things that will help people. The black wizards think that this is chaos but he knows that it is rooted in order. love comes to him and leaves but comes again in a new form. The dramatization adds much to the enjoyment.

Great Story

This Author has a way of building this world and all the characters in it. I’m glad I have this a chance! Graphic Audio Dramatized Adaptation is my favorite style. I love sound effects and different character voices!

Dramatization seems oriented on youngsters

I've read the series several times, but this is my first time listening to it. I know audio books pretty well. I was an early Audible adopter and have >1000 books in my Audible library. The dramatization ruined this book for me. Sadly, it was the dramatized version was the only version available.

I've long been a Modesitt fan. I think I have everything he's ever written and I've certainly read them all at least 3x. So I know Modesitt pretty well.

The speech patterns in the narrative are way too excitable, way too fast, way too emotional, all seemingly intended to keep the attention of a youngster. Blech.
