About this listen

Johnny Cash is one of the most influential figures in music and American popular culture today. While he was an icon to people of all ages during his life, Cash's legacy continues after his death. His remarkable story is captured in this exclusive authorized biography, addressing the whole life of Johnny Cash, not just his unforgettable music, but also his relationship with June Carter Cash and his faith in Christ. His authenticity, love for God and family, and unassuming persona are what Steve Turner captures with passion and focus in this inspiring book.

Different from other books written about him, The Man Called Cash brings Cash's faith and love for God into the foreground and tells the story of a man redeemed, without watering-down or sugar-coating. Unquestionably one of the biggest book releases of 2004, The Man Called Cash will be a huge success with his millions of fans and will draw in many new fans with this inspiring story of faith and redemption.

I was never what you would call a big Johnny Cash fan just really liked his video Hurt, but this is an excellent story. The reader's voice also matches the story to a T. I can't write a review that does the book justice, but if you want to listen to a biography that follows a life of ups and downs with no regrets, learn about a man of faith who knew he was a sinner and knew the true power of Christianity not the hypocritical, religious right version that has become so vogue these days, then this is a worthy listen. You don't have to be a fan of country music in order to gain from this book, if you like to read books on success, or on how to make a comeback you can't get much better than this one. Mr. Cash was certainly a man who took what talent he had and made the most of it.

Should be on the recommendation list

I love Johnny Cash and so, I enjoyed listening to this book and hearing about how Cash grew up, how he went in and made it into the field of music. I also enjoy hearing about how he created certain songs and on his relationship with other sings such as Elvis. With that said, though, I know the narrator was a close friend of his, but his voice practically put me to sleep.

Not bad

Beautifully written book, inspirational, emotional, insightful, challenging. This was a well-balanced presentation have a complex man that few knew well. No sugar coating the ugly parts comma no glorification of the good. Beauty from pain.

You will laugh out loud and cry in public.

This is a fine biography of Johnny Cash, narrated by Kris Kristopherson (nice touch). It presents an honest, balanced telling of Cash's life and music and even points out discrepencies between the first two Cash autobiographies. Cash himself chose Turner to do the book but died before the interviews were complete. Turner filled in the blanks by interviewing those who knew Cash well. My only criticism is that I wish this were not an abridged version. It makes the telling a bit choppy at times.

Well Done Biography, but too short

It is a little short, but if your looking for a book thst covers the entire life of Cash, focusing on his drug addiction, faith, and career development, this is a good choice. Now I just want to go deeper.

Great overview
