About this listen

Tom Knox, the best-selling author of The Genesis Secret, delivers a spine-tingling novel that “may well be the most controversial thriller since The Da Vinci Code” (Jeff Abbott). When David Martinez inherits an ancient map from his dying grandfather, the map—and the promise of two million dollars—leads David into the Basque heart of the treacherous Pyrenees. There a genetic curse and a frightening secret from the past lurk in the shadows. Soon David and a beautiful stranger are on the run from a vicious and relentless pursuer.

I had to give up on this about halfway through part 1. The graphic descriptions of murders and tortures (both contemporary and medieval) got to me. The plot started out well, and the narration was good, but I just couldn't get through the gore. I like thrillers, but this was a bit too graphic for my tastes.

Not for the faint-hearted

Would you try another book from Tom Knox and/or Steven Crossley?

Steven Crossley -- I would surely recommend
Tom Knox -- not so sure I would suggest him to anyone

What could Tom Knox have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This book was exciting, but way too graphic. I didn't ever want to know what burning human smells like.

Any additional comments?

I'm not prudish or objective, but wow! This book was graphic in the extreme. The story is fanatical, give strange extra extraordinary powers to the guys hunting down the running guy that he wants to kill. So, hated it.
