Publisher's summary

She’s a tough former soldier trying to resist the charming medic who’s going all in to claim her.

Former Norwegian special forces soldier Siv Pedersen is making a new start in San Francisco. New country, new job at Norcross Security, and her new rule: no men. She’s left her annoying ex behind and her only goal is to prove herself in her new job, especially when she’s assigned to her own investigation.

What she didn’t count on was having to work with one handsome, charming, and far-too-tempting former combat medic.

After a career as an Air Force combat medic, Ryder Morgan is happy with his life. He likes working part time as a paramedic and donating the rest of his time at a free clinic in the toughest part of the city. He always thought finding “the one” wasn’t for him…until he sees gorgeous, tough Siv in a killer red dress.

Now he’ll do anything to break through her prickly shell and convince her that he’s the man for her.

As homeless people start dying, and Ryder loses a good friend, Siv and Ryder must work together to find a killer. Going undercover as husband and wife, they have to discover who’s preying on the city’s most vulnerable before more people die. As they uncover a vast web of lies, Ryder has his work cut out for him. Not only to find justice, but to prove to Siv that he’ll protect both her body and her heart.

Each book in this action-packed romance series can be listened to as a stand-alone.

Fantastic

I loved Ryder and Sieve’s story and their willingness to protect the homeless and downtrodden! Their compassionate natures, honor and loyalty to family and friends are an inspiration to others. Sieve took a little time to come around to Ryder’s attention but discovered how worth it, it really was! Teddy Hamilton and Stella Bloom were fantastic narrators! They really brought the story to life!!

Who doesn’t love a medic?

Technically Ryder isn’t part of the Norcross Security team…that would be his brother…however, he has been involved in some of their cases. This means that he’s ‘run into’ the female operative, Siv, on many occasions. The chemistry is there but Siv is closed off. When someone starts targeting the homeless population and bodies start to rise, including that of a vet, and Ryder’s friend, he begins to investigate. It’s only natural that he will team up with Siv and Norcross when that vet’s brother hire them to find his brother’s killer. Another brilliant story!

Very entertaining story and performance

I love this Norcross Security series. This book continues with Ryder's and Siv's story. It has great character development, suspense, action and romance. The performance is very well done. This book is very enjoyable and entertaining!

An Okay Read

It was new and different to have a Norwegian female protagonist, and one who was Special Forces! But the only Norwegian flavor in the story came from Ryder and a few words he knew; otherwise, Siv felt pretty American.

Also, it seemed out of character for Ryder, who's portrayed as cool, calm and collected, to just burst into a sudden "tantrum" while questioning the guy at the morgue when the original game plan was for Siv to charm information out of him. Absolutely nothing was gained in this scene and it felt like amateurish investigation.

In fact, the entire investigation seemed to lack for realistic details and depth.

The ending was fun and sweet and poignant.

Hot and Cold

The Hunt Brothers are just as hot as the Norcross Brothers. I totally enjoyed Ryder and Seve’s book. It was so darn hot I want it o move to San Francisco and find me a private security firm to hang out with! I especially enjoyed the dual narrators.

Swoonworthy Ryder is much deeper than charming

If you've read the rest, then like me you've probably been chomping for seemingly "playboy" Ryder Morgan to fall, guessing he'd be so loveable under tha smile and charm. Gotta say I was falling even harder than I expected when he fell for a bad to the bone female operator who he adored for her strength and abilities and would even stand back and let her do her thing until she needed him to stand beside her...never I front of her... like any fiercely independent strong woman, Siv is wary of relationships and men because they too often want to break strong women rather than embrace them and stand beside them, and she bears the scars from this typical societal norm. I feel her pain in that, but Ryder basks in her strength and does not give up, in fact saddles up to fight for her after she literally knocks him on his butt. As he works to break through her titanium walls, they both find someone to share their pains and weaknesses with as they find danger and action during a deadly investigation with fast-paced suspense. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton do a terrific job of bringing the story to life as always.

Another thrilling Norcross installment!

Ryder Morgan is a former combat medic, who is now a paramedic who is also volunteering at the Anderson Free Clinic in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco, where he treats homeless veterans. Siv Pedersen has recently escaped a cheating boyfriend and needs a new start. She has moved to San Francisco to work for Norcross Security after a career in the Norwegian Special Forces. Ryder and Siv met a few weeks earlier when she flat out decked him on a dance floor. As a result, he is intrigued by her and wants to get to know her better. After her douche of a boyfriend cheats on her, Siv swears off of men for a while. Ryder is trying to convince her to change her mind. Meanwhile, some of these homeless veterans are dying of mysterious causes; the deaths are being passed off as drug overdoses. Ryder and Siv are tasked with investigating deeper into these mysterious deaths.

As usual in an Anna Hackett book, expect action, sexy times, fighting, death threats, a little breaking and entering, bad folks trying to get away with something, and help when it is most needed. This story is gripping and will keep readers from going to sleep if they start it in the evening! Be prepared! You might want to start this story in the morning instead. Many of the Norcross Security Operatives are couples now, and this story gives us a sneak peek into their lives as well. It also sets up one of the final members of the team on his way to finding his own HEA ending and introduces readers to the next generation of the Norcross family. This is a fun and harrowing story at times, but well worth the roller-coaster-ride-feeling.

Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton do a bang-up job narrating this story. Hamilton voices Ryder as tough, funny, and vulnerable, while Bloom voices Siv as capable, strong, and no-nonsense. At times they each have to voice other characters, as well as voicing both Siv and Ryder, but they do a good job of distinguishing each character. And when Teddy Hamilton speaks as Vander Norcross—it’s utter perfection! There aren’t any flubs in the recording, or any extraneous mouth noises, so the quality of the overall recording is excellent.

Heart-pounding and Steamy Romance!

Wow, this was so thrilling, suspenseful, and steamy! I was so intrigued by Siv and Ryder's story, and how two strong independent people can connect and become stronger and more passionate together. Siv is new to the Norcross Security team after leaving the Norwegian special forces. She left behind a cheating ex who was embarrassed by her abilities to protect herself and others. She is looking for a new adventure and not a man. But when she gets hurt on a mission, the sexy medic who treats her catches her interest. Ryder retired from the Air Force as a combat medic, and is happy helping those on the streets who can't afford healthcare. When seemingly healthy homeless people start dying, Siv and Ryder have to work together to find out what is happening. Siv holds herself back from Ryder, assuming he won't like a strong, independent woman. But Ryder finds her smart and sexy, and wants more of her than something casual. Siv begins to see the kind, selflessness behind the cocky charm and starts to fall for him too. Will they be able to stop the killer before more innocent people die, including them? This was a fast paced, exciting story. It challenged the imagination and was really alot of fun thanks to Stella Bloom, and Teddy Hamilton's fabulous narration. They delivered all the excitement, emotion, wit, and steam perfectly, and their ability to bring these characters and story to life was amazing. I loved the way Bloom brought the prickly Siv from only being focused, and dedicated to her work, to a fun, and passionate woman. I also loved how Hamilton made me feel Ryder's strong emotions, fierce devotion and caring for those struggling on the streets. I was totally lost in their performance as they brought these characters and heart-pounding story to life.

Good book

This book is good. Both narrators did very good job but I prefer different male narrator. Teddy Hamilton is really good but his voice doesn’t “sound” for me - unfortunately.
