About this listen

In the 18th century, the residents of Acadia live in a fragile truce. The settlers of this rough Canadian island are either French or British, and the two nationalities do not mix, no matter how close their villages are. One day in a meadow, two women begin a friendship. Although Catherine is British, and Louisa is French, the women become as close as sisters. But when war breaks out, their friendship and their faith lead to a sacrifice greater than they could ever predict.

Both Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn are best-selling authors, known world-wide for their inspiring novels. Their collaborative works, including Return to Harmony, have thrilled millions of readers. In The Meeting Place, they have created an unforgettable story set in a dramatic period of Canadian history.

I first read these books in High School and have been an avid audiobook listener in recent years. I like the book and have fond memories of the books but admittedly am struggling with the reader. The simpering cavity sweet voice she uses for the two main characters is a bit hard to listen to but alas, they were recorded ages ago and voice artists have grown a lot in the intervening years. Not bad just challenging.

It took me a bit to get into this book, but now I wish it was not over!
So much faith in both the good times and bad! So much sacrifice and love for one's "enemies" it could only come from God!
The narration was ideal! Emotional when needed. I couldn't ask for a better narrator for these English and French characters who are both military and civilians, commoners and wealthy. 5 stars!

Story Of how enemy's only exist when we create them ourselves. God's work through love can remove the walls created by man. Lovely, yet so sad story of 2 families separated by man's fear of his own weakness.

I think the performance would’ve been better with a man’s voice. Also, if there’s a pause in the book, besides the chapter end, put a longer pause in its reading so that it doesn’t sound so run together. I also couldn’t get interested in the story, even after a few chapters. Just not for me.
