About this listen

As a young girl, Lillian Walsh lost both her parents and a younger sister. Now in her 20s, after enduring the death of her adoptive mother, Lillian must find her place in the world. Just as her adoptive father is leaving for an extended trip to his native Wales, a lawyer appears at the door to inform Lillian that she has inherited a small estate from her birth parents - and that the sister she had long believed dead is likely alive.

When she discovers that her sister Grace is living in a city not far away, Lillian rushes to a reunion, fearful that the years of separation will make it hard to reconnect.

When the two sisters meet, Grace is not at all what Lillian expected to find. Even though her circumstances have been difficult, Grace has big dreams. Can Lillian set aside her own plans to join her sister in an adventure that will surely change them both?

So much like older Janette Oke books

I'm halfway through the series at this point. This is the beloved story telling that I fell in love with from Janette Oke's first book. And Nancy Peterson never fails to delight me as a narrator. Heads up...book 2 is even better!

Orphans

Great story. So sad it is so true for so many children in the past and in the present.

Sweet Story

Narration was wonderful. Very moved by the historical accuracy and plight of the children represented in this novel.

Touching and inspiring

Janette Oke books have been my go to ever since I realized the Hallmark show “When Calls The Heart” was based on her novels. I fell in love with the series the show was based on (books are WAY better). As someone who has a tender heart for children this book was inspirational as well as entertaining. The story of two sisters answering God’s call and loving/accepting children into their hearts and lives touched me deeply. I’m so excited to start the next book in the series, and I haven’t looked, but I hope it won’t be the last!!

Story was great, ended horribly

The story was great until the abrupt and confusing end. Really leaves you hanging as if the electric went out in the middle of a cliff hanger on a tv show. Otherwise it’s very good.

A delightful story

So easy to listen too! So full of hope. Love the childrens story and the narrator’s way of sharing. It felt like you were there! Love the Christian aspects and the way God worked in everyone’s life. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Trusting God

What a well written story about learning to trust God. Learning to trust God is hard but this little story could be read to children to help them.
