Yawn

What did you like best about The Solitary Envoy? What did you like least?

The main character.

Would you recommend The Solitary Envoy to your friends? Why or why not?

No. It was very repetitive.

Did Suzanne Toren do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Not really.

Did The Solitary Envoy inspire you to do anything?

Not at all.

Any additional comments?

I couldn't even finish this book. The storyline dragged on, not much excitement or character differences.

Nice twist on history

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. It gave some accurate history and a new twist to the tragedies incurred.

What other book might you compare The Solitary Envoy to and why?

It is different.

Which scene was your favorite?

When she realizes she CAN be effective and a woman.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

What women did.

Excellent Experience

The story is a good start for another Bunn series, but the reader's outstanding performance made this just an awesome experience. She is amazing with the way she does all of the voices. It truly brings the story to life.!

Very Predictable

What would have made The Solitary Envoy better?

The presentation of the story was fine; however, I am not sure what the readability level of this book would be. I believe that it would be very appropriate for middle school students. The story was very predictable and "pollyannaish".

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Solitary Envoy?

This entire book should be removed from Audible for adults and put in the children's section.

Very slow and not much action

This was not gripping enough to hold my attention. This story was repetitive and unimaginative.

Better read than listened to

I very much enjoy period pieces and historical fiction, but Bernard Cornwall this is not. I learned a lot about how women did their hair in 1820 and how cute little 8 year old girls are, however. The reader almost prevented my finishing the story with her whiney male voices and absolutly awful British accent. Go to your local Christian bookstore and buy a copy of the book.

Christian propaganda

What would have made The Solitary Envoy better?

Better writing and better narration.
I suspected this was a sappy piece of work by the narration, but thought the historic content would compensate for the poor skill of the narrator. As I listened further it degenerated into total religious rubbish, so much so that I stopped listening altogether. I chose the book in haste before a long road trip, so it was a great disappointment. Fortunately, I had Faulkner's "Light in August" saved on my device. That is a book that I could listen to over and over again!

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nothing called "inspirational".

How could the performance have been better?

A narrator would make the heroine, Erica, sound like a the strongly independent character (as she was written) instead of a simpering, whiny mama's girl.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Solitary Envoy?

All of it.

Any additional comments?

A very regrettable choice.
