About this listen

A human mob boss and an injured jaguar shifter brought together by a cruel enemy… and fate.

Caden hasn’t believed in fated mates since he was a cub. He figures it’s more of a fairytale that shifter parents tell their kids than the reality of what passes for mates in some of the packs he’s seen.

But then he comes face-to-face with a human man who smells like orange blossoms and radiates authority and safety.

And Caden… Well, he hasn’t felt safe in a long time.

While the rest of the world fears and reviles Quinten Amato and the things he does under the guise of his business, Caden is drawn to him like a cub to an alpha. He doesn’t care what anyone says or what Quinten does, he and his jaguar know the kind of man he is.

The kind who saved his life.
The kind who comforts him when he wakes up terrified.
The kind whose calm commands set his blood on fire.

Convincing his bossy human they’re meant to be together isn’t going to be easy. Especially not when Quinten’s certain Caden needs things he can’t get from him—and that being a part of Quinten’s life in the shadows is too dangerous.

And he might be right.

The Mobster’s Mate is a full-length novel featuring a human with questionable morals and a jaguar shifter who only sees the best in him. You’ll find an age gap, found family vibes, fated mates, and gobs of possessiveness.

This title is a standalone novel set within the Kincaid Pack universe. It can be listened to and enjoyed on its own. However, if you’d like to understand the nuances of the world, then start your journey with The Alpha and His King (Kincaid Pack Book 1).

This story was so good!

I love Caden! He deserves all the happiness with his fated mate. Quinton has to quit living in denial but he is one of those redeemable bad boys. He really isn’t all that bad and when faced with the ultimate choice, he makes the right one. I love found family too. Not to mention this story is adjacent to the Kincaid Pack which is one of my favorite shifter series ever. Kirk Graves really nails this one. I love his narrations and he does these characters so much justice.

A shifter and a mob boss!

I love the Kincaid Pack series so I was so excited to read this spin-off!
It can definitely be read as a standalone but people who've read Kincaid Pack will notice more things.
I really liked Quinten and Caden's relationship. The mob boss aspect was really cool and I hope we get more books from Quinten's pack.
The only thing is I wish this book was a bit longer it was pretty short and went by very fast.
Kirt Graves is a great narrator and I love his work on Kiki's books.

Tropes: age gap, shifter, mob boss, damaged hero, single dad, fated mates

5 Stars!

Kurt Graves narrates this series amazingly well. I love listening to him bring all the various characters to life! Easy 5 star One-Click audiobook! Quinten and Caden are fated mates, but Quinten doesn’t think this is possible since he is only human, no Alpha with no pack. Is he a mobster or an Alpha? Appearances can be deceiving. I sincerely hope Kiki Clark writes more of this unique “found family” pack.

A mobster meets his fated mate

Kiki Clark's books are always such a treat, and Quinten and Caden's story was no exception! A misunderstood "mob boss" and a jaguar shifter who instantly felt safe around him, a brand new cast of characters with a few Kincaid Pack cameos, and a storyline that felt as fast-paced and urgent as it did sweet and satisfying--what's not to love!

This book got off to a strong start, with the mystery of who Caden was and why he'd been dropped on Quinten's doorstep transitioning into a no-time-to-waste rescue mission to keep him from suffering a horrible fate. As Caden's backstory was revealed through terrifying nightmares and quiet confessions, my heart absolutely broke for him, but the main thing that gave me comfort was knowing how protected and safe he felt in Quinten's presence. I thought it was so sweet how the most instinctive parts of Caden kept seeking Quinten's scent out, and though Quinten tried to keep himself at a distance he was a total softie when it came to making Caden feel safe and happy. I am a total sucker for badass guys who turn into teddy bears for their loved ones, so you'd better believe I was eating up every minute Quinten and Caden spent building their connection. Caden was so sure of Quinten's inherent goodness even when they were complete strangers, and I love that he saw all the darkest parts of him and still stood his ground when the Kincaids tried to convince him that Quinten was a bad guy. Quinten would have denied it left and right, but he wanted to be a strong, protective figure to the people closest to him, someone his loved ones could count on to keep them safe. He'd convinced himself that because he wasn't a parahuman he couldn't be good enough, fast enough, strong enough, and I was thrilled to see Caden challenge those misconceptions and show Quinten that the only thing holding him back was himself. In between the hunt for the person responsible for harming Caden, Caden and Quinten's romance took off, a satisfying burn that left me wanting more and more and more. The two of them did have their ups and downs, mostly from Quinten's misguided attempts to do what was best for Caden without actually talking to Caden about it, but Quinten did eventually let go of his insecurities and open his heart up fully. Both the romance and the hunt for Caden and Quinten's enemy came to a satisfying resolution, and I couldn't be more excited about all the potential follow-ups that could come from the ending.

Loved it!

I’ve not come across a mobster and shifter fated mates romance before, so I really enjoyed this original take on the genre. This has two really compelling main characters and a plot that is gripping which made this a really fun listening experience. The narrator is also quite engaging and does a good job bringing Caden and Quinten’s story to life. I loved how committed Caden was in making Quinten see that they were fate mates. I was definitely rooting for Quinten to see the light, see that he is actually the Alpha Caden needs. This has a great balance between the mystery of Caden’s abduction, fascinating pack politics, and a really wonderful romance.

Fantastic

As much as I enjoyed the book, hearing Kirk bring everyone to life just absolutely made this so much better! He absolutely brought them to life: the pouting, the pain and the spice. It was perfection and I can’t wait to see and/or hear what Kiki writes next!
