About this listen

Italian doctor and educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was the first woman to graduate from the University of Rome Medical School. This masterpiece of educational philosophy is still relevant today, as the author explains to parents and teachers how to free a child through its own efforts. First published in English in 1912, these tried and trusted methods have proved their worth for more than a hundred years. Emphasizing the individuality of the child in order to nurture the joy of learning, Montessori avoids rote memorization and drilling, encouraging abstract thinking with the aim of fulfilling a child's emotional, physical, and intellectual potential.

Unpleasant narrator

Hard to follow, she just reads without understanding, hence you can’t understand the book and it’s hard to follow

Truly a pioneer in teaching! Very detailed!

I loved learning about Dr. Montessori's experienced that shaped her teaching style. I found the information on how small children learn very fascinating. I loved reading about her confidence to approach teaching in an entirely new way. This was a great read!
I didn't enjoy the performance of the narrator. I would have liked more emotion. For example Dr. Montessori often refers to the miracle of a child understanding a new skill, but the narrator says it as a matter of fact, just the same as describing the teaching materials. I think Dr. Montessori was very heartfelt, & that didn't come through in the narration.

Hard to follow the narrator

The style of narration was the worst I’ve heard. The narrator seems to have never read the book and is monotone with a constant repetition of one melodic pattern. The content was of this book and the very wordy and lengthy sentences combined with the narration were tough to get through. However, I slowed down the speed and suffered through the narration because I find Maria Montessori’s message and work fascinating.

Hard read

The book is hard to follow but the information is priceless. I had to replay portions several times. The narrator is key for an audible book. They missed the mark this time.

Not a fan. Worst purchase ever

Too long and very few concepts worth the while listening to.
Diminishing and imposing, I would never recommend it
