About this listen
Zuri dreams of being invited to the city island of VainGlory, where she can rise to the top of her field. Everyone knows that in VainGlory, fame is the name of the game.
The most elite athletes, artists, and entertainers live in VainGlory. Designed for luxurious living, the state of the art promotes living in individual personal bubbles. Able to go anywhere virtually, the wealthy rarely leave home.
But now that she's arrived in VainGlory, Zuri wonders what might lurk below the city's beautiful and shiny surface. She encounters strange dangers and learns that VainGlorians delight in the suffering of those less fortunate.
Something is wrong in VainGlory. Something terribly wrong.
Zuri has invested the last 10 years of her life working toward success. But when does the cost of success become too high?

Story
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Numbers are her world, her obsession, her everything. All she understands, she does so through the power of math. Roger and Dodger aren’t exactly human, though they don’t realize it. On the first day, no one really noticed. All those babies wrapped in blue blankets - not a pink one in sight. On the third day, people were scared - a statistic-defying abundance of blue. Not just entire hospitals, not only entire countries, but the entire world. Boys. Only boys. Until Eve. The only girl born in 50 years. The savior of mankind. Kept protected, towering above a ruined world under a glass dome of safety until she is ready to renew the human race. But when the time comes to find a suitor...Eve doesn't only want safety and protection. She wants freedom.

Very poignant sci-fi/fantasy tale with a twist
I’ve read several of Resa Nelson’s books and I must be honest the absence of dragons in The Mosaic Woman was totally unexpected. However, as I read The Mosaic Woman, I was mesmerized by Zuri’s story as it unfolded. Resa created a technology rich world where people strived to gain fame and be accepted to the city of VainGlory. Along with being a very good fantasy/sci-fi story it is the first one in a very long time that has left me thinking about the underlying message. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.

Just not for me.
I've been on a personal mission to try various genres. I am not into PNL, but have recently found some I really like. This is actually more futuristic, dystopian living in a specialized world where only experts in their fields live and work. With protective personalized bubbles, etc. Sorry. Just not for me. I didn't finish it, but StoryOrigin asks that s I leave an honest review.
The author narrates this herself. I like that, as she knows her book better than anyone! She does an excellent job. She is easy to listen to.

ZURI AND THE NOT-SO-REAL WORLD
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Zuri is an ambitious woman who wants to make a life for herself in the town of VainGlory, where everyone is thought to be the best of the best. This story reminds me of the social media people trying to make a name for themselves without knowing that their lives are being manipulated by dreams and non-reality. Their way to fame is to use other people’s dreams and their mosaics, parts of their lives that they made for themselves. I like the way the story ends with Zuri seeing parts of reality and not knowing if she will ever find her true self again.

The cost of fame
Such an interesting dystopian story… Zuri strived to be the best, but, as she made her way up the ladder, she became all too aware of the true cost involved.
This was my first introduction to Resa Nelson’s writing, and I really enjoyed it! I was drawn into the story immediately and couldn’t put it down. She also did a great job with the narration. I’ll definitely be checking out some of her other works.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
