Editorial reviews

The brothers Tom and David Gardner - co-founders of the investment advisory group "The Motley Fool" - ran a web experiment in which interested investors could track Tom Gardner’s every move as he managed a $1 million portfolio.

Lessons gleaned from that experiment are recounted in this audiobook, narrated by Tom and David themselves. Perfect for rookie investors who want to understand investment theory and see it played out, this audiobook will introduce dividend investing, stock picking, blue-chip bargains, and all that other good, foolish stuff.

Great Introduction to Investing

I tend to like audiobooks read by the authors because you get a sense of the author's passion for the topic. This was no exception. This is great introduction for beginners as well as an excellent way to get a refresher course for those that may have been away from trading for a few years.

My only negative comment is that each chapter ends with what is effectively an advertisement for signing up on their website for fee-based newsletters where you can learn more. I am actually a subscriber to one of their newsletters but I could have done without the ads. After all, I've already paid for the book.

Great for portfolio construction for the laymen

I really enjoyed this book and have listened multiple times over the years. When new investors start asking me questions, I recommend this book. An absolute must read for new (and more experienced) retail investors.

Advertising with solid advice sprinkled in

Felt like the bulk of the book was MF pushing their paid newsletter. However information on how to evaluate stocks were helpful, if a bit outdated.
