Editorial reviews

Narrated by esteemed actor Christopher Plummer, of The Sound of Music fame, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is literary giant Edgar Allen Poe’s only complete novel, finished in 1838.

Arthur Gordon Pym has a drunken impulse to stow away on a whaling ship. And, as we know from other great titles of historical seafaring literature, such as Moby-Dick, the powerful mighty sea can bring much outside misfortune and internal turbulence. Pym experiences a mutiny, a shipwreck, hostile natives, several other massive calamities, and like all good literature, a significant crisis of self.

Poe- One of the greatest

I love how you can dive into this story and enjoy classical language, characters that have some depth and a straightforward way of telling the story.

when something is touched upon that has already been described you are told directly. it is not redescribed with new words and alternate descriptions the plot is never slowed to allow this.

I love Poes works and love re reading them.

A great audio book and a great work by Edgar Allen Poe

Only portions of the book

While the narrator has a very excellent way of performing the story, it was aggravating to have to continuously pause and read the text portions missing in the recording. I was reading this for a class so skipping pages of the story was not ideal. Pretty disappointed in that but grateful for the narration to help bring the story to life.
