Publisher's summary

Beware the night and those who roam it with fangs and eyes of the brightest blue.…

On the cusp of maturity at the age of 12, Spot de León has the innocence to see what others cannot.

Piercing the veils of illusion woven all around him, he soon realises the world is not at all as he had thought.

A secret centuries-old war is being waged in the streets.

The damned stalk the night, draining the blood of innocents, and the mysterious Crows are the only ones who seem to know.

Beware the city of Justiqua, where even Knights are not safe from nightmares, a city bankrupted by Crusades, where poverty and crime are rife and a plague cripples the populace.

Beware the city of Vampyres, where the Old One lurks in catacombs deep underground.

Beware when the night comes alive.…

Another well-written story from a good author

The Night Comes Alive: A Gothic Fantasy Novel, my fourteenth read from author Ross C. Hughes and the latest in his Maradoum world. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Colin Clark's narration adds to the story's enjoyment. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.

I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. it started out slow, the story did have secrets, deception, magic, and Vampires.

A dark tale from Maradoum.

I can’t think of a better way to spend the first day of the new year than visiting Maradoum. Ross Hughes’ The Night Comes Alive takes a different course than all the other Maradoum stories I’ve read. In this story we follow Spot as he learns to deal with his visions of monsters that no one else can see. This story is a decidedly darker tale than any of its predecessors, but it needs to be this way due to its nature and the subject matter – quasi-horror stories can’t be light in nature if they are to be effective, and this story is very effective as a horror story or a gothic fantasy as the author describes it. I truly wasn’t expecting Vampyres and Knights nor any other supernatural beings such as Crows. I have to say, The Night Comes Alive is my favorite of all the Maradoum stories simply because it is nonstop entertainment that includes action, deceit, intrigue, and plenty of surprises. My review is based on listening to the audiobook expertly narrated by Colin Clark. Mr. Clark does an awesome job of bringing Spot, Tumba and the other characters to life with unique voices for each. Additionally, he brings the story to life with an obvious enthusiasm as he narrates the story. I received a review copy of the audiobook through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review.

Excellent

At first I didn’t think I was going to like this but boy was I wrong, I loved it. It did start out a little slow but quickly changed. A story full of secrets, deception, magic and determination. The vampires are everywhere hiding in plain sight. They hide their true appearance from the public but Spot can see them. He tries to tell people but nobody believes him. The vampires are trying to rid the world of humans. They are constantly bringing in more vampires & also creating more. They want to rule but they also have to fight the crows because they hunt their kind and kill them. After Spots home is attacked, the crows take him in and together they will work to defeat the vampires. A classic good vs evil story with excellent characters and awesome battles. The author did a great job with this and I highly recommend this one.
