The Last Pendergast Novel For Me...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Would not recommend, I have read all of the other Pendergast novel but the series has become very predictable and I find myself remiss to continue.

What was most disappointing about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child ’s story?

There was very little intrigue in the same old evil character brought back from the dead again and again. After this book I found myself hoping the protagonist would pass on for good.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

NO.

Started Strong, Finished Weak

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Although it didn't leave me with the usual Pendergast high....I don't regret reading it.

If you’ve listened to books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child before, how does this one compare?

This book falls below typical expectation for this series.

Did Rene Auberjonois do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The narration was strong, consistent, and engaging as usual.

Do you think The Obsidian Chamber needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not sure if or how this chapter should be followed.

Any additional comments?

The ending felt rushed and very unsatisfying. The first two thirds of the story was completely engaging, then the wheels came off and did not leave me with the usual feeling of satisfaction and desire for more like most Pendergast books do.

Love the Pendergast series!

As always the story was fantastic. The only reason I gave performance 4 stars was that at times it was hard to tell the difference between some voices.

Finally, some resolution!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Obsidian Chamber to be better than the print version?

I find audio versions of books to be highly enjoyable when the narration is masterfully done. Listening to a novel is a great way to breeze through monotonous work and still have your imagination working.

What did you like best about this story?

I feel like I have been waiting forever to find out what happened to Pendergast and to see if this was the end of the series. It was such a relief to have the cliff hanger of the last book resolved.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His seamless transition between character voices and mannerisms only helps to enhance to imagery of the book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Can any person truly escape their past? Especially in matter of the mind and heart?

Any additional comments?

I very much enjoyed this book and was delighted to find that the background characters played a much more important role in the development of the plot line. However, I fear that unless the story and characters can make a major change in their self imposed misguided morality the series is headed for a dead end.

Enough already

Too much Diogenes not enough Pendergast. Too much of this book is focussed on the evil brother who is supposed to be dead already. This is a character that should be written out of the series permanently, totally unlikable, no redeeming qualities, etc. etc..
