Dale McConachie
About this listen
The New American Standard Bible is one of the most accurate translations of the scriptures. Let professional voice artist Dale McConachie, narrator of over 100 audiobooks, take you on a journey through the Old Testament, where you will discover the relationship between God and the nation of Israel. The Pentateuch deals with the creation of Israel and God establishing a covenant relationship with Israel. The historical books record Israel’s history, its victories and successes, and its defeats and failures. The poetic books give us a more intimate look at God’s relationship with Israel and his passion for Israel to worship and obey him. The prophetic books are God’s call to Israel to repent from its idolatry and unfaithfulness and to return to a relationship of obedience and spiritual fidelity.
Perhaps a better title would be the First Testament. The word old tends to give the idea that the Old Testament is not relevant. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Dale’s goal in this recording was to make a simple but reverent audio copy of God’s Word that you can take with you everywhere you go - while you commute, in the kitchen, or at the gym. You can easily access any chapter of the Old Testament at any time.

The NASB 2020 is an update of the NASB 1995 that further improves accuracy where possible, modernizes language, and improves understandability. These refinements maintain faithful accuracy to the original texts and provide a clear understanding of God’s Word to those who prefer more modern English standards. The long-established translation standard for the NASB remains the same as it always has been, that is to accurately translate the inspired Word of God from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts into modern English that is clearly understandable today.

Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

Story
The saints, the heroes of the Roman Catholic faith, lived lives of holiness, dedicated to serving God. The saints lived at different times in different places throughout history, but they all shared a love of God that has been documented through the teachings of the Church. Today, the saints serve as examples for all Catholics, showing the believers how to lead a more spiritual life. Catholic devotions are particular customs, rituals and practices of worship or in honour of the saints that are in addition to the liturgy of the Catholic Church.

Before you could tuck it under your arm, before you could bring it up on your phone–you did not read Scripture, you listened to it. For centuries, the only way to access God’s Word was to hear it read aloud in public gatherings. Today, we blessed to own personal printed copies of the Bible, but there is a surprising benefit to hearing the Scriptures read aloud as it was for so many generations.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.

Content is wonderful. Hard to navigate
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The chapter breaks are not according to Bible's structure, and are not documented in any way. It was very difficult to find specific books.
What about Dale McConachie’s performance did you like?
Solid, respectful reading

difficult to search for a specific book
What disappointed you about The Old Testament of the New American Standard Audio Bible?
The bible is broken into different chapters without titles. Some of the books of the bible are more than one chapter, so although they are in order it the numbers are not the same as the order of the books. It is there for not good to look up something in particular but if you want to listen to the Bible, as it is read straight through, it is fine.

Hard to find specific Books/Chapters
As others have said, it is difficult to find a specific place you want. In addition, some of the Chapters have been omitted. When I came across this I quit reading/listening and applied for a refund. I will also apply for a refund for the New Testament.
