Oswald Chambers
About this listen
Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) is best known for his classic devotional work, My Utmost for His Highest. He died while proofreading the manuscript of what would be his first book, Baffled to Fight Better. For the rest of her life, his widow transcribed and published books and articles edited from the notes of his sermons she had taken in shorthand.
This collection brings together 24 of Chambers' best full-length works on subjects ranging from prayer to sin, from lessons on suffering to meditations on the Holy Spirit. They include Biblical Psychology; God’s Workmanship; If Ye Shall Ask; So Send I You; and Studies in the Sermon on the Mount.

Story
Experience is not what a man thinks through, but what he lives through. The Bible is like life and deals with facts, not with principles, and life is not logical. Logic is simply a method of working the facts we know, but if we try to make God and other people logical, we shall find that the experience of life brings us to other conclusions. God sees that we are put to the test in the whole of life. We have to beware of selecting the portions of life only where we imagine we can live as saints and of cutting off any part of life because of the difficulty of being a Christian there.

Story
Oswald Chambers here shows us the parallel between our Lord’s wondrous life on Earth and our life lived in his name. The psychology of the sanctified life is perfectly illustrated in our Lord’s life as set forth in the Gospels. The First Adam mishandled and disarranged his human nature. The Last Adam restored human nature to a right working relation to God. I pray that the book may prove as great a blessing to many thoughtful students, as it has been to some of us for years, bringing them to the Apostolic climax of confession, “For to me to live is Christ.”

This audiobook will greatly help seekers after holiness, because it meets us on the threshold of our life in Christ and leads us along a luminous path of scriptural teaching, to the full measure of the believer’s identification with his Risen Lord. The candidates for sanctification are those who have the first-fruits of sanctification in the initial work of grace. They are then shown that the secret of holiness is the imparted holiness of Jesus Christ. What a marvellous thing sanctification is. The perfections of Jesus - ours by the sheer gift of God.

In this devotional study, Oswald Chambers explains it in simple yet insightful terms in the following five sections: His Teaching and Our Training, Actual and Real, Incarnate Wisdom and Individual Reason, Character and Conduct, and Ideas, Ideals, and Actuality.

Story
The question of forming habits on the basis of the grace of God is a very vital one. God regenerates us and puts us in contact with all his divine resources, but he cannot make us walk according to his will; the practising is ours, not God’s. We have to take the initiative and “add to...faith virtue...". To take the initiative means to make a beginning, and each one of us must do it for himself: We have to acquaint ourselves with the way we have to go; and beware of the tendency of asking the way when we know it perfectly well.

As an English-speaking denomination, Baptists originated within 17th-century Puritanism as an offshoot of Congregationalism. English Baptists migrated to the American colonies during the 17th century. During the 18th century, the Great Awakening resulted in the expansion of the denomination, and the conversion of many slaves to Baptist churches. Baptist congregations formed their first national organization the Triennial Convention in the early 1800.

Story
A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word.

Story
Learning how to pray is one of the greatest challenges in a Christian's life. A. W. Tozer pointed out that the Church's greatest curse is unanswered prayer, and that many people do not seem bothered by that. Maybe they don't understand what answered prayer is all about. Tozer outlines this as only he can, describing the kind of prayer God answers and the kind of prayer that leaves Him silent. Ultimately, you have to ask yourself: are my prayers today more powerful and effective than they were a year ago? Our good Father wants them to be!

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.

The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters five to seven) is one of the most beloved passages of scripture. The Sermon is the longest continuous discourse of Christ in the New Testament and includes some of his best known teachings like the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer. In this devotional study, Oswald Chambers explains it in simple yet insightful terms in the following five sections: His Teaching and Our Training, Actual and Real, Incarnate Wisdom and Individual Reason, Character and Conduct, and Ideas, Ideals, and Actuality.

Only TWO of his works, not 24
This edition includes only Studies in The Sermon on the Mount, and Biblical Psychology. Even having read this from another review, I still purchased this edition because this narrator has a voice I prefer over the other option, that is, slightly deeper, without extreme variance in tone while being far from the monotone of so many sermons and lectures. The narrator has a slight disconnect in the pronunciation of the books of the Bible when referenced, using the abbreviations as the words, otherwise, there is little distraction.
Now that we have covered the voice, let's discuss the books. I first listened to Biblical Psychology. I am still thinking about the reality Mr. Chambers expressed- in the end, God does NOT get what he wants!
IIPeter 3:9 The LORD is not slack concerning his promises, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
While this book contains a great deal more, I am still ruminating on this. In fact, this truth is horrifying. And, if, after more than ten hours listening in two days, something this profound doesn't prompt you to stop and think, you may as well remove the fiber from your bread, spread it over with corn syrup and wash it down with a large soda, and enjoy it while you wander this earth. This has given me a serious case of a burning heart, and that alone is worth the purchase.
I didn't purchase either book, but downloaded them as free epubs. You certainly can buy both, but you will want to read along as you listen, and mark up your copy. You will also need the Authorized Version of 1611- and, if you would rather compromise with the world and buy a copyrighted perversion of the Bible, be aware, you may fail to grasp the nuisances which gove understanding.
Both of these books provide a solid, college level study. You may choose to study further, but, without the Holy Spirit to guide you, it will seem difficult. I was honestly sad to come to the end of both studies.

The title and description are very misleading.
The title calls this a “collection”, the description states this contains 24 of Oswald Chambers works: this is not true, it only contains 2 works. The works included are “Studies in the Sermon on the Mount” and “ Biblical Psychology”. While I’m grateful to be able to listen to these 2 works I’m disappointed to not have access to the other 22 works as described. I have been unable to find any of Oswald Chambers other works in audio format. As a truck driver I find audio very helpful.
