About this listen

The number-one New York Times best-seller from “the queen of royal fiction” (USA Today) Philippa Gregory is a rich, compelling novel of love, sex, ambition, and intrigue surrounding the Tudor court of Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and the infamous Boleyn family.

When Mary Boleyn comes to court as an innocent girl of 14, she catches the eye of the handsome and charming Henry VIII. Dazzled by the king, Mary falls in love with both her golden prince and her growing role as unofficial queen. However, she soon realizes just how much she is a pawn in her family’s ambitious plots as the king’s interest begins to wane, and soon, she is forced to step aside for her best friend and rival: her sister, Anne. With her own destiny suddenly unknown, Mary realizes she must defy her family and take fate into her own hands.

With more than one million copies in print and adapted for the big screen, The Other Boleyn Girl is a riveting historical drama. It brings to light a woman of extraordinary determination and desire who lived at the heart of the most exciting and glamorous court in Europe and survived a treacherous political landscape by following her heart.

wonderful narration of intriguing story

I enjoyed the novel years ago. This is a very well done audiobook version. I'm glad it's unabridged. The style is historical fiction, so set aside any expectations of exacting attention to detail and just enjoy an interesting perspective on a portion of Tudor times.

CAN'T STOP LISTENING! ADDICTED!

I read this book back in high school when I was a teenager and was obsessed. Now, as an adult with a full time job and no time to read books, I wanted to read it again. Once I found the audible version, I was so excited. The accent of the narrator, the conviction in her voice, and the overall ambiance I got from listening to this, is exactly how it was written by Phillipa! The Boleyn girls went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. The way this book is written, makes me wish I was in this time period to witness the tragedy.

Signed,
A 1500's time traveler.

Engaging, Romantic Historical Fiction

As a huge lover of Tudor-era historical fiction, this book has been on my to-read list for ages. While it definitely wasn't the most historically accurate by a long stretch, it was a solid, entertaining read. It was great to read about the "other" Boleyn, Mary, and her endlessly dramatic and romantic life at court. At times, the book definitely started to feel long, but it was overall a good read.

The narrator was also great, and she did a range of voices and accents fairly well. I'd happily listen to her again.

Excellent narrative

I love this book and read it many times. I can no longer read and find all too often that the reader is disappointing. not true here.
The reader was just like myself reading it. Fabulous!

So much better than the movie!!

I loved this books. I was expecting something much like the movie but the drama in the book is so much better and the story plays out with much more detail and explanation. Also the narrator was wonderful!

Historical inaccuracies aside, this is a treat.

Vanessa Kirby should become a full-time narrator; I’ve enjoyed her reading of ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ as much as I love Kate Winslet’s ‘Matilda.’ Both she and Winslet have voices made for audiobooks; both she and Winslet are quintessentially English.

Kirby’s interpretation of each character is utterly wonderful and captivating, especially the two leads, Anne and Mary Boleyn: Mary’s sweetness to Anne’s acidic intelligence.

The book itself is one of my favorites, although I’m a Tudor buff and have a hard time ignoring the inaccuracies and outright lies. I love Philippa Gregory’s works because she’s a good writer (she is) and in spite of her apparent status as a historian (she isn’t).
