Publisher's summary

From Erica Spindler, the New York Times best-selling author of Justice for Sara and The First Wife, comes The Other Girl, a chilling new thriller about a ritualistic murder of a college professor that sends a small-town cop back into the trauma she thought she'd put behind her.

A horrific crime. One witness - a 15-year-old girl from the wrong side of the tracks, one known for lying and her own brushes with the law.

Is it any surprise no one believed her?

Officer Miranda Rader of the Harmony, Louisiana, PD is known for her honesty, integrity, and steady hand in a crisis - but that wasn't always so. Miranda comes from the town of Jasper, a place about the size of a good spit on a hot day, and her side of the tracks was the wrong one. She's worked hard to earn the respect of her coworkers and the community.

When Miranda and her partner are called to investigate the murder of one of the town's most beloved college professors, they're unprepared for the brutality of the scene. This murder is unlike any they've ever investigated, and just when Miranda thinks she's seen the worst of it, she finds a piece of evidence that chills her to the core: a faded newspaper clipping about that terrible night 15 years ago. The night she'd buried, along with her past and the girl she'd been back then. Until now that grave had stayed sealed...except for those times, in the deepest part of the night, when the nightmares came: of a crime no one believed happened and the screams of the girl they believed didn't exist.

Then another man turns up dead, this one a retired cop. Not just any cop - the one who took her statement that night. Two murders, two very different men, two killings that on the surface had nothing in common - except Miranda.

EXCELLENT suspense, easy 5 Stars!!

I'm not sure why but within hours of this book being released someone gave it a one star and left no review. For that alone I would have given this book five stars. HOWEVER, this book DESERVES the Five Stars I have given it.
This is such a good book. It has it all, from heart racing to heart breaking. The abducted teen who gets away and promises to bring help but being a known liar, no one believes her. The girl who is bound with rope waiting for help that never comes.
This book is their story and the story of their abductor and the ones who helped him get away with it. I found this book hard to stop listening to and finished it the same day it was released. Very well written and very believable.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

Great Read

If you could sum up The Other Girl in three words, what would they be?

Predictable but fantastic

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Other Girl?

The twist. You never knew who to believe.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

I loves the many voices she used - you always knew which character was speaking. Almost sounded like it was being read by different people.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

She will have her revenge.

Any additional comments?

Because I read so man murder mysteries i found this to be a little predictable but still a great read. You never knew who to trust!

What stood out most was how crooked the police were in this story.

In this book, "The Other Girl", It makes me angry that no one believed Randi. And, how they willfully and knowingly allowed a rapist to continue assaulting women just because he was rich and from an influential family. But a despicable criminal all the same. If this story was to get the ire up in other womensnd the discuss ... mission accomplished! The ending was sad and justifying at the same time. Overall a good story.

Almost

I was excited to get another Erica Spindler book as some of her books are so good. Unfortunately this one didn't quite live up to my expectations. The narration was very well done but the book in general was underwhelming and too predictable.

This suspense mystery is a winner!

This marvelous novel again demonstrates why following the reviews of Audible Listener Shelley is a good idea. Without her 5 star review I would never have listened to The Other Girl. Her review and the publisher summary provide enough about the novel's contents. The novel is at once a heartbreaking and a heartwarming suspense mystery with a major twist near the end. It is about the powerful and well connected taking advantage of the young and powerless. It is also about seeing the powerful fall due to the tenacity of those they have wronged. It involves two murders in Harmony, Louisiana that were justified and appropriate. Seldom does a story touch me as this one did. Author Erica Spindler does a fantastic job. So does narrator Tavia Gilbert.

definitely buy on sale

I would buy on sale or fairly cheap. Not the worst book but not great and some of it is almost painful to listen to as in the voice used.

Nice easy read

I really enjoyed the book and character development. I usually guess the end well in advance but this one was a surprise.

Great narration

Fifteen years ago Randi, I trouble teen was abducted by a predator. Now she’s Miranda, a cop who recognizes a sexually mutilated, murdered college professor as her kidnapper. She pursues leads that one of his victims killed him, not telling her boss, breaking rules until she’s kicked off the case.

The Audible Narration was my favorite aspect of the THE OTHER GIRL. Though I’m not a prude, I don’t enjoy reading sex scenes that do nothing to further a story. They’re more difficult to skip listening to a story than to skim while reading.

Other than the narration, I didn’t enjoy anything about the story or characters.
