A perfect blend of writer and narrator

If you could sum up The Outhouse in three words, what would they be?

Touching, sad and surprising.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anne Miller was my favorite character. Her story arc was very touching. I don't want to give away plot points, but what happens to her is so important to the book and the other characters.

Have you listened to any of Paul Curtis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

If you could take any character from The Outhouse out to dinner, who would it be and why?

It would have to be Pa. I have a thousand questions I would want to ask him. Plus, I would love to be able to sit across from him and ask him why!

Any additional comments?

Paul Curtis' voice was just perfect for this novel. It felt exactly as it should have been; a grandpa telling the story of his life and revealing why the secret had been kept all these years.

Brilliant novel and fantastic read

The story is brilliantly written. Every time I hoped a topic would be covered or an answer exposed, it was. The narrator is excellent and I especially enjoyed his slight accents on different characters.

The ending (which I don't want to give away) was a bit of a surprise but touching.

My favorite part of the structure of this novel is that as certain aspects are revealed, so many of the earlier pieces come together.

I highly recommend this book.
