About this listen

I killed the men who butchered my parents and dodged the hangman’s noose—now I’m an outlaw bound by honor, drawn to the one man who wants nothing to do with me.

After years of drifting and hiding my secrets, I sense a chance of redemption at Isaiah Ranch. I’ve known family and honor—can I find it again here?

Ambrose Isaiah, the youngest heir of a powerful ranching dynasty, sees me as a threat—a killer with no place among his kin. He’s right, but that doesn’t stop the spark between us.

I didn’t come here to stay. I didn’t come here to fall in love. I’m everything Ambrose should despise. But away from prying eyes, with only the wilderness as witness, we cross a line neither of us can take back.

Our secret heats up fast—but so does the danger. A violent gang is closing in with the ranch in their sights. When betrayal hits close to home, we have to fight… even if it means losing everything.

The land, the truth…and each other.

This is the start of the Isaiah Ranch series back in the old west, when they first started taking in convicts to work off their sentence. That is how Ambrose and Samuel meet. None of them Isaiah's know Ambrose's secret. Samuel pushes his buttons, the mouth on him, he likes to get a rise out of Ambrose. The pair are scouting the ranch, when things finally heat up at the riverside with them

Michael Dean does a great job portraying both men with feeling.

"I want you to be doing something that makes you happy. And if that don't mean a bride and children runnin' around, then so be it. God has a plan for everyone, and it ain't up to the rest of us to figure out what his plan is for you. That's for you to find out. So if your heart is tellin' you something different, then by His will and grace, go out and find that thing and make it yours."

I loved this book. I was always drawn to the concept of a place like Isaiah Ranch and very excited to see how it all began. It was fascinating to see it unfold from this angle having read stories from it's future. I loved both Samuel and Ambrose and the dynamic between them. Their banter made me laugh at times, and I liked how they slowly began to open up as their relationship deepened.

"You ain't stupid," Ambrose said after a moment
"I'm aware," I snorted. "Thanks, I guess."
"But you don't always seem that smart."
I squinted at him. “I can't tell if you're trying to compliment me, insult me, or get me to talk."

I also loved Samuel's personality. His snark with the bailiff cinched it for me. I was sad for Ambrose's constraints; his father's word was law- even if he had better ideas- and didn't value his input or opinion if it didn't align with his own. His brother Joseph was a jerk. I loved his sister, though. I was pretty impressed with how Samuel handled talking to Ambrose's family members. His mouth may get him into trouble sometimes, but he was smart and knew how to talk well.

The story had some danger and suspense and I was completely hooked. I also really love the cover- the handsome model, the colors and composition.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the audiobook version (I read it in ebook when it released) and I loved it. Michael Dean did a great job bringing these guys to life, and I had no trouble telling the characters apart.

This was one of the most beautiful MM romances I’ve ever listened to. From start to finish, the story was rich, deeply emotional, and completely captivating. Nothing felt rushed—every moment, every word, was meaningful. I hung on to each one like a love letter being read for the first time.

The slow-burn connection between the two main characters was masterfully done. I didn’t just fall for them—I felt them. Their chemistry, their growth, their heartbreak and healing... it was the kind of romance that lingers. And the side characters added a wonderful layer of depth to an already vivid story.

Michael Dean’s narration was perfection. His voice gave every character life and emotion in the most seamless, intimate way. Honestly, my only complaint is that it ended. You know those rare stories that settle into your heart and leave an ache when they’re over? This was one of them.

The good news? There are more stories by Romeo Alexander to fall into. And I absolutely will.

One of the best!!!!

I really enjoy historical romances, and this one took me way back in time to the 1800's. I have read the series so this was definitely a smooth listen for me, but you could listen for the setting and romance between Ambrose and Samuel alone. The need for them to keep their relationship secret really added to the passionate nature of their intimate times together. And we get a lot of those. Michael Dean narrated to perfection bringing out all the emotions and personalities.

Historical and Passionate!

I truly loved this story of two strong men growing together through many challenges and coming out stronger together at the end. They were together fighting for their lives at the beginning and ended up together living their best lives alongside each other. I truly am so happy that I got to read and review this book and I definitely recommend it to everyone who loves mm romance stories that show how a lifetime can be wonderful after all its challenges.

This was my first Romeo Alexander book. Part of the Isaiah Ranch series, this heartfelt M/M romance follows Ambrose and Samuel’s emotional and passionate journey. Their story is original and complex, filled with drama, secrets, and twists. Their chemistry is sizzling hot. Michael Dean did a good job bringing the story to life. Though M/M romance isn’t my usual pick, this one was intriguing and engaging. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
