About this listen

Meet the Pierce family. Desmond Pierce, a hardworking man from the South, is determined to give his and wife and daughters a good life in Compton, California. Pearla Pierce is a sexy and seductive mother who plays wifey and devoted mother only when her husband is home. Then there’s Carmen, a promiscuous 17-year-old on a self-destructive path and jealous of her younger sister. Cashmere, a 13-year-old, struggles to hold her family together out of love for her father.

When tragedy hits home, Carmen and Cashmere find themselves orphans living with their hateful aunt and having to resort to stripping and selling drugs to survive. Carmen drags Cashmere into a world of drugs, violence, and sex when she allows a ruthless pimp named Black to turn her out. Against her will, Cashmere is also forced to work for Black by prostituting herself for high-class ballers.

Carmen’s jealousy toward her younger sister continues when she sees Black falling in love with Cashmere. Carmen’s need to destroy her sister sets off a chain of events that lands Cashmere in jail. Cashmere is left alone and broken, but with the hope that some way, somehow, she can be fixed.

Very Sad and Dark Story But it’s Good

This book had me hopeful for a while but it never got better it just kept getting worse. I started getting frustrated because I wanted the main character to come out on top so bad but she just kept falling victim. I had to stop listening for a while but then I decided to finish it because I needed to know how it ended. I needed to find out if the tables ever turned if karma ever showed up. & all I can say is... just keep listening until the end.

Just WOW.

I cried on this one. A true story of no matter what you've been through, things can always get better if you're willing to do the work. Good read and not predictable like I thought it was going to be. Redemption is real!

Hang On To The End It Gets Better

With all the twists and turns this story lead us on the experiences of the characters was morbid, sad, depressing and I wanted to stop. I'm so glad I didn't. The tragic experiences of Cashmere and in the end hearing why the journey was one filled with sorrow pulled it all together. In the end there is a happily ever after for some of the characters who really deserved it. I'm glad I hung on til the end. The tragedies in this story resulted in triumph.
