A Quest for Freedom
All Americans are familiar with the story of the Pilgrims--persecuted for their religion in the Old World, they crossed the ocean to settle in a wild and dangerous land. But for most of us, the story ends after their brutal first winter at Plymouth, with a supposedly peaceful encounter with the Native Americans and a happy Thanksgiving.
Now, through the vivid memoirs, letters, and personal accounts in The Pilgrim Chronicles, you will discover the full, compelling story of their anguished journey and heroic strength. Award-winning historian Rod Gragg brings the Pilgrims to life in this lavish guide filled with moving eyewitness narratives. From their persecution in England and painful exile in Holland to their voyage across the Atlantic and their struggle to survive among the Indians in an untamed wilderness, Gragg takes you on the harrowing and inspiring journey of a people seeking religious freedom.

The Mayflower originals battled religious persecution, attacks from the Indigenous people, disease and death. Yet they were able to live in peace with the tribes around New England for fifty years. The Europeans on the Mayflower dealt honestly, honorably and they respected the “savage” customs.
However, from the very start, did they want to grub up all of this land’s riches! Immediate shipments of timber, sassafras and beaver pelts were sent back to England to pay their way.
I want to know my direct ancestor’s role in the “founding” of the US. This book was a great beginning in my education.
A good start for this pilgrim/puritan descendent

The only thing I didn't like was that I think even though it was indeed important a d was the cause of the Pilgrims voyage to America, the author spent too much of the book talking about pre-pilgrimage England and it's religious turmoil, I would have liked more emphasis on the Colony.
