Language

The stories were interesting. Not the best of the Poirot mysteries. I did find some of the language insensitive to other cultures. For example the use of word chink when addressing the Chinese.

Excellent narrator and classic crime solving!

What's not to love? The narrator does a great accent and varies the voices enough to keep you interested in these classic Poirot mysteries. A must-listen!

Such an Enjoyable Experience!

This was a great intro to Agatha Christie and her writing. Much kudos to the narrator as well! His reading was passionate and acted well--I imagine his depiction of Poirot to be a very good one, so much so that I'd love to have him read some of the other Agatha Christie--and the Poirot mysteries--as well.

A Must for All Fans of Sherlock Holmes!

"Order and method were his gods." I especially loved that comment when the protagonist says "A spec of dust would do more harm to [the detective Poirot] than a bullet would." The authoress Agatha Christie had obviously grown up with the Sherlock Holmes stories because she volunteered his name through a character in the first book. Her protagonist Cpt. Hastings is much like Dr. John Watson in the sense that he represents the not-so-sharp-witted audience, and the story tells itself from his perspective. Her detective Hercule Poirot uses many of the same techniques and strategies, employed by Holmes, such as deduction, experimentation, disinformation, reverse-psychology, and of course, theatre. He differs from Holmes because he doesn't emphasize inferences from astute observation of tiny details but rather emphasizes the order and method of the perpetrator. The plot of the first book was a bit too elaborate and had some logical loopholes like why people back then would drink coffee before bed. The plot of second book was more enjoyable but also reminiscent of the Holmesian "Adventure of the Second Stain" and The Valley of Fear. The third book is a collection of short adventures that are short and sweet. Lastly, the narrator does a phenomenal job because ALL accents of both genders are perfectly legitimate and distinctive, so I should place him as one of safely the top ten voice actors to whose books I have listened so far.

Not the version you are looking for

While the narrator does a reasonable job, it’s simply not a good fit. His accent is distracting. I would recommend listening to the sample prior to purchase.

Narrator

The narrator trying do a multiple voices especially Poirot and others are distracting and impossible to understand at times. Impossible to follow the story’s plot. Readers should get a refund!!!
