About this listen

Cash-strapped drifter Anthony Cade agrees to two jobs at the behest of an old friend. He is to deliver an unpublished memoir to a publisher and return a cache of letters to a woman. The simple errands soon plunge Cade into dangerous international intrigue that draws together Scotland Yard, the French Sûreté, and the heir to the Herzoslovakian throne. But it’s at the historic estate of Chimneys in the English countryside that the dark secrets of a treacherous conspiracy erupt in murder.

Clandestine societies, ciphers, hidden passages, body doubles, and questionable detectives are just part of a deviously clever puzzle - part mystery, part treasure hunt - devised by the unparalleled Agatha Christie. First published in 1925, The Secret of Chimneys marked the debut of Superintendent Battle - the stolid investigator who appeared in five classic Christie mysteries.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Secret of Chimneys, this edition of The Secret of Chimneys (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

Fun Agatha Christie plot. The narrator was fine a narrator, but in the dialogue he made all the characters sound old and foppish and a bit annoying. His voices/tone just didn’t match most of the characters as described, which was a bummer.

Fun plot, narrator left something to be desired

It is amusing and a delight to listen as my imagination explores the fantasy of English life and society of a pretend bygone era and experience astonishment at the overt racism revealed in the conversations of the elite as portrayed.

Delightful entertainment

A different version of the usual Agatha Christie. More of a puzzle than a murder.

A fine murder

I'm a big Agatha Christie fan, but I had never read The Secret of Chimneys. It's my first Inspector Battle book. All good there. But in addition the story is fun, very adventurous, unusual and surprising. The narration is terrific. I got this thru kindle unlimited, so i was very pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend it.

Loved this Christie classic

I love this novel by Agatha Christie, but found the reading in this version unlistenable. Don’t waste your money.

Terrible narration

Not worthy of Agatha Christy or Audible. Not well written ,repetitive and slow. And, even though the times reflected were socially discriminatory, the racism was too much for me.

Not worthy
