Really enjoyable stories

I'm learning to love Holly Black's work (although I suspect Valiant is always going to be my favourite).

Nice mix of stories with a huge range of characters.

Great stories, bad narration

Holly Black is my favorite author and I was excited to read an anthology of stories by her. She reads the book herself, I saw other reviews saying it was bad and I agree. She sounds bored with her own work. There's hardly any inflection, and all the characters' voices sound the same. I hope her next audiobook will be read by a professional like her other books are. All in all I still listened through to the end because the stories are worth it.

Good Stories Marred by Lackluster Performance

The stories in this book are clever and well written, but I would recommend reading them instead of listening to this version. The narrator (the author herself) is unfortunately a little monotonous and doesn???t put much effort, if any, into differentiating between the characters as a good narrator would. As her enunciation is lacking and there is so little enthusiasm in the narration, the whole thing comes off like a teenager reading something in class that they don???t find very interesting. The effect is soporific and dull. It???s a shame as the stories would otherwise be a treat. Well written, poor execution.
