The Power and Freedom of a Humble Life

Pride is often the true reason why we get our feelings hurt, why we feel rejection, why we won't admit to mistakes, why we want to be seen with certain people, and why we stay angry. Jesus gives us the perfect example of a powerful life lived without conceit, smugness, or arrogance. So why do we not want to admit to our pride? It is because of our pride!

In The Power of Humility, R. T. Kendall challenges us to look deeply into our hearts and motives to recognize the pride and self-righteousness there. Using personal stories and enlightening examples from the Bible, he demonstrates how pride interferes with a close relationship with God and reveals how to overcome pride and become more like Jesus.

Mandatory Reading List

This book should be on the list of mandatory reading for every blood bought born-again Christian. I will be purchasing a hard copy so I can read and study this further.

Some good insight

Enjoyed listening to this book. The reader did an outstanding job. The content is very insightful and Biblical.

He did mention some folks later in the book I disagree with doctrinally, but it wasn’t his focus - they were names in passing.

A humble look at humility--that's quite an achievement!

We all struggle with pride and/or it's alter ego self-deprecation. RT talks about this root sin in clear Biblical terms, illustrated with the successes and failures from his 75 years. The remedy he points to is none other than the scandal of the cross, where we all must kill our pride to accept God's gift of saving grace. Humility is a realistic look at ourselves, in the light of the Gospel. The book is not preachy, but edifying and encouraging. Every Christian should listen to this book.

I needed this book!

God recently led me R.T. Kendall's writings. This one, the book about doves/pigeons, & You Might Be A Pharisee are great books.

Convicts to the Soul

Truly a deeply convicting book. It cuts to the heart and soul, using the Words of Jesus. Highly recommended, but hard to listen to!

Humility is all to often absent in today's culture.

R.T. Kendall speaks very candid about his own struggle with pride. This book is insightful, the teaching is priceless, and if we choose to apply the instructions no doubt our relationship with God would be limitless. This is a must read for those devoted to living near The Lord.

Good, made you think, reexamine

I thank the Lord for using people like RT Kendall to help people like me. Whether this is something new or something we already know, he bringing it back into view in a clear understandable way. To think on and refresh us. I so enjoy how he keeps the Bible the focus and all the verses he uses.
