About this listen

Feeling worn thin? Come find rest.

The Blue Ridge Parkway meanders through miles of rolling Virginia mountains. It's a route made famous by natural beauty and the simple rhythms of rural life.

And it's in this setting that Hannah Anderson began her exploration of what it means to pursue a life of peace and humility. Fighting back her own sense of restlessness and anxiety, she finds herself immersed in the world outside, discovering a classroom full of forsythia, milkweed, and a failed herb garden. Lessons about soil preparation, sour mulch, and grapevine blights reveal the truth about our dependence on God, finding rest, and fighting discontentment.

Humble Roots is part theology of incarnation and part stroll through the fields and forest. Anchored in the teaching of Jesus, Anderson explores how cultivating humility - not scheduling, strict boundaries, or increased productivity - leads to peace. "Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden," Jesus invites us, "and you will find rest for your souls."

So come. Learn humility from the lilies of the field and from the one who is humility himself. Remember who you are and who you are not, and rediscover the rest that comes from belonging to him.

I love how Hannah Anderson used imagery from nature and stories from her life to explain deep truths of our faith.

Lovely

Full of truth, fun to listen to. Lots of stories and references to plants and gardening. I feel it lacks an overall “punch” and rambles a bit, but that added to the charm. In a sentence: pride is the source of all anxiety; turn to God to find rest.

Great listen

For any person that feels overwhelmed and/or out of control, not worthy, under accomplishes, etc
This book felt like it was speaking directly to me. Very encouraging as I realized I am not the only way to feel this way, and that there is hope and rest in Christ.
This book is also very convicting in many ways.
She does a great job with theology as she walks through different subjects.
So worth the read!

This was so great. I love how Hannah Anderson brings in the natural erythema of seasons and gardens into her storytelling. She opens my eyes to the Creator and His care over creation and my body and soul.

I am not God.

It is a thorough reflection of biblical humility, combined with beautifully crafted visuals of nature and gardening that were integrated so well!

Biblical and poetic

This is an unusually gifted author. Many of the Christian living books I read are written by men (which is fine!!), but this one is obviously written by a woman, to women. Relatable without pandering, instructive, & beautiful metaphors that are carried throughout. I am going to have to re-read a few chapters to chew on the concepts she was covering.

A phenomenal read

Well written, so deep and great performance by the narrator! I had no idea that there was so much depth to the words of the Bible, “Be thou humble”, until listening to this book.

Very good book!

The book was recommended to me. Due to lack of time, or fatigue at the end of the day and many restarts, I decided to download the audio version and listen while riding my bicycle. I was able to finish the book in a little over 2 days and hope to listen again at some point. Applying the principles of humility will be no easy task, but with God's help I expect that change will come. I absolutely love H.A's connection to plants! I am also a gardener (of flowers) and often see correlations to the spiritual life, but nothing like what was presented in this book. I highly recommend it ...as a thiught provoking, convicting read!

Excellent! Much to Ponder On
