About this listen

In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's word.

  • Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her?
  • How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood?
  • Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his angel together in his prayer?
  • Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over?
  • In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions?
  • Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits?
  • Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership?
  • Who are the glorious ones that even angels dare not rebuke?

After listening to this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again.

There is a world referred to in the scripture that is quite unseen, but also quite present and active. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm seeks to unmask this world. Heiser shows how important it is to understand this world and appreciate how its contribution helps to make sense of scripture. The book is clear and well done, treating many ideas and themes that often go unseen themselves. With this book, such themes will no longer be neglected, so listen to it and discover a new realm for reflection about what scripture teaches.

Interesting and deep

This was a book that I had to take in very small bites, and only while I was doing mindless, routine tasks. The author makes many very interesting points that were completely outside the realm of my previous thinking -- and I've been a Bible reader all my life. In many ways it has changed the way I view the world, myself, and the spiritual realm.

I would like to listen to it at least once more, maybe looking at the companion website, as well.

The narrator was excellent! He obviously has a gift for pronouncing foreign languages, as well as being able to read well and in an interesting way -- something difficult to do on such an academic work!

Looking Forward to Relistening To This!

I knew only a short ways into this audiobook that I'd want to listen to it again.

I am a Christian that actively goes to church. I appreciated hearing how the Bible would have been interpreted by those around at the time of its writing -- and this book does provide that.

A lot of this is a new interpretation on familiar passages and I'm going to seek out opinions from others (eg, a friend that knows Hebrew) to see if they support/reject the author's findings... ...so I am definitely fascinated and not skeptical so much as wanting additional corroboration.

A wake up every Christian needs to hear

I have needed to hear this for years. Finally, the Biblical narrative is starting to fit together and make sense. This work plays a pivotal role in understanding everything that appears to be going on in the world today, including that which has no apparent connection to the Christian Gospel. Read it, and have your eyes opened like never before.

This book is a must read for all Christians

We have been fed a watered down version of scripture and Dr. Michael Hieser is here to unapologetically and objectively clean up the house.

Eye opener that leads to more questions

I have to admit that this book is not for your average Christian, as it requires a lot of mental effort to follow large portions of it. But if you are up for the task, there is little doubt that it will reshape your view of how to read the Bible, and will add so much clarity to passages you just simply didn’t understand before. A lot of the Bible is hard for a modern person to understand, and thinking from the perspective of the writers is a discipline this book helps you achieve. There is a more casual version of the book called “Supernatural ” if you want the content of the book in a less scholarly package. I do wish more was addressed on certain topics (end times, angel and demonology), but ultimately this was an amazing in-depth start to reading the Bible in a new way.

Fantastic!

Inspiring heights of theological vision built on solid historical research and logical reason. The narrator's facility with historical languages and gentle voicing of characters commends him as uniquely qualified, despite a sometimes nasal quality, perhaps the fault of small speakers on my smartphone.

Fascinating

The only problem I had was every time the narrator read the name Satan as "SAINTAN" I can't believe the editors didn't pick this up.

Honesty makes an impression!

This book has opened my eyes to a better understanding of many scriptures of the old and new testament. Just as important, He makes connections between the two that I had previously missed. I particularly appreciate that Dr. Heiser presents many approaches to interpretation and why they exist, even when they do not conform to his personal conclusions.

Captivating Biblical insights.

While most of us have inquired about the giant offspring of Genesis 6:4, we rarely pressed on because we refrained from biblical speculation. But, if we would only pursue the other relative texts throughout the Old and New Testaments, we will see that the spiritual realm is integral to God’s big picture. Michael Heiser walks the reader right down this exact path. Will be reading the Scriptures through these additional lenses from this point.
