About this listen

Practice makes perfect...or so she thought.

Nobody likes Cody Matthews, including Cody Matthews. And why should they? He got his high school girlfriend pregnant, and then almost killed them both while driving drunk. That's why he's perfect for Hannah. She'd never fall for someone like him.

Hannah Stark is a high school senior with a resume of straight A's. She's never stepped a toe out of line. But that's also why she's never had a boyfriend. While all her classmates are counting down the days until graduation, Hannah is dragging her feet. She can't believe she'll be leaving her adolescence behind without ever taking a chance to be wild and free. That's why she's set her sights on Harrison.

Harrison Cohl is everything Hannah wants to be. Gorgeous, wealthy, popular, and wild. He's also notorious for the legendary masquerade ball he throws every year. And this year, Hannah is determined to be invited. And have Harrison as her date.

Hannah's plan is crazy. But she's convinced she just needs a little practice to make her high school...perfect.

A fun, fast, YA romance that you won't be able to pause. Perfect for fans of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars.

Note: Suggested age 16+ for mature language and content.

Solid Story with Decent Voice Acting

The Practice Boyfriend is a solid contemporary upper YA romance with the appropriate amount of sweetness and innocence, teen angst, and drama. I immediately connected with the main character. Outside of Hannah's tennis playing, I'm so not sporty, I identified with her academic pursuits at the sacrifice of a social life and her desire to make up for that. Her innocence and naivete also struck a chord with me and as events unfold, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing at that age (although at times she had me smacking my forehead with her actions).

Without giving too much away, Cody and his actions and attitude are spot on for the truths that are revealed over the course of the plot.

The Goldens, the upper echelon of high school cliques were definitely how I imagined some of the most popular people at my high school to be, maybe to an extreme, but I certainly believed in the possibility of all their antics being true as the story went on.

The story is easily consumed in one sitting, or maybe that's because I didn't want to have to stop it once I got started. I had to keep going to find out how everything would play out and if certain parties would get what they deserved.

The narrator for the audiobook wasn't my favorite (although far better than some others I have heard), I felt she fell flat in a few spots, but overall the characters and plot vastly carried me past any issues that could have created otherwise.

I've been a fan of Christina Benjamin's since her Geneva Project series, and I look forward to continuing on with this series in either print or audio format.

1,2,3...secrets revealed

It was a nice light read that I needed...a break fr. reality. I thought the author did a pretty good job but I still felt something lacking in the end...it was like all the secrets spilled out, soap opera style. LOL. Overall, it wasn’t too bad! A great Audiobook narrator, too!!!

Hooked me from the first line

I really enjoyed this book. It may be short on length, but not on content. There was a lot of story and I loved the characters.
Parts of it, I expected, but there were quite a few surprises that I never saw coming.
I really wish there was more story at the end. I could have gone on listening to another 4 hours.

I received this book as a gift and my review is honest and voluntary.

Not bad

I have not read anything by this author, so when I saw the description on this book, which I found interesting I thought I'll give it a go.
This is aimed at YA but some adults might like it to. It is not a bad book and a short listen. I wouldn't mind reading/listening to other books written by this author.

Loved it.

I really loved this story I wish it was longer. I loved Cody he was a great character Hannah, on the other hand, irritated me a little bit but that's the thing with being a nieve teenage girl you sometimes make really bad decisions. This story had a little of everything secrets, mean girls, twists, and romance.

Teen Drama with a twist

I received a free copy in exchange for an unbiased review. This started off a little slow and predictable for me but, boy was I wrong. I really started to to enjoy the book once the truth came out about Cody. I did feel like some of the book had to much detail and other parts seemed to be missed. I wouls have liked to find out more about Cody's mom and the circumstances around her affair. I would say that for a quick listen this one was a win.

Great Teen to Adult story

I loved this. The idea of smart Hannah getting Cody to teach her how to live in the real world outside of books is awesome. I really enjoyed the sweet romance. Everything between Hannah and Cody was great and then you add in the drama that Harrison brings and you have a really compelling story. Catherine did such an amazing job narrating that I hardly noticed that I was listening to a book and it was more like I had a movie playing in my head.

Entertaining, definitely not for younger than 16

I really enjoyed this book. Some of it was predictable, especially if you've watched some of these rich kid shows like Gossip Girl. Still, other parts weren't. I really liked Hannah and Cody's characters, and the story flowed really well. It was definitely one that I would have listened to in one sitting if I hadn't had to got to bed because I had work in the morning. I actually give the story a 4.5. It was really entertaining, as I mentioned and though a few parts were predictable, it didn't bother me in the least. I was a bit disappointed with how quickly the end wrapped up. It wasn't a bad ending, but left me wanting a little more.

There is a lot of sexually suggestive stuff in the book and though it's all vanilla for an adult, since this is a YA book, I would definitely heed the warning in the summary that it be read by 16+ young adults. If you're okay with them watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, then you should be fine with them listening to this book. Nothing gets super descriptive.

Catherine Wenglowski has a great voice for narration and did a wonderful job with the various characters. She handles both the male and female parts well and they sounded natural. I'd be happy to listen to another one of her performance.

I would recommend this book and I'd love to listen to more in the series as they become available on Audible. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Sweet YA read with a bit of romance and mystery

3.75 Stars. This is a sweet YA read with a bit of romance and mystery. I enjoyed the characters and finished in one day. I would definitely check out other books by this Author. I listened to the audible version and thought the narrator did a great job.
