About this listen

The Psychopaths Among Us: Journey into the Dangerous Minds of Those Without a Conscience by Jackson Hicks

When you first think of the term psychopath, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is the insane, insatiable serial killer. We expect the appearance of such a depraved individual to reflect the madness without. This couldn't be more wrong.

So, the question is - who precisely are psychopaths? Are they what we usually refer to as "mind players"? Or, are they the murderous, soulless beings that we typically mention as "serial killers"? Moreover, do they feel remorse and guilt over their actions, or are they incapable of emotionally attaching themselves to anything and anyone? Should we believe the most popular facts and myths indicating these individuals can’t bond with their families as normal people do?

The truth is that the charming person who holds the door open for you at work all the time, the charismatic ex you have that everyone loves but had a bit of a mean streak behind closed doors, the guy from college who loved extreme sports, or even your surgeon - they are all quite possibly psychopaths.

In this book, we will discuss the serious field of psychopathy in detail, revealing how psychopaths operate, how they assimilate into the world, and whether they feel responsible for their cruel acts. Moreover, we’ll determine how we can play our role to subside the destruction they cause in our society. In short, if you’re interested in educating yourself about psychopaths based on factual, high-valued information, this book is for you!

Difficult to Follow as Spoken

I'm not sure I can listen to the last 25 mins. While the narrator uses good diction and has a pleasant voice I would bet that he retained very little of what he read. It sounded like a cold reading (first run through), the annunciation or exaggeration/focus on the correct words was off, prepositional phrases were seemingly split with periods and the narrator should have looked up the pronunciation of facade and anesthetist. With such a great voice and diction, it's really a shame that it's not spoken more conversationally and with a little focus on the content of what he is reading.

Narration was horrible

Narration was horrifically, forced and robotic and hard to listen to, and the subject matter of this book was very thin and could be found anywhere else for free. Don't waste your time on this.
