About this listen

In the second audiobook of the series, Father Gunter and his friend Robert Durling travel to the town of Mountainview.

A demon's presence in the town has the townfolk depressed, with suicides being a daily occurrence. After the duo meets Father Nelson, they receive an amulet that will aid them in their battle against the Mountainview demon. But after a meeting with TV reporter Belinda Carstone, they learn of her mysterious dream, and a demon that abducted her many years ago. Soon, their adventure takes a completely new, terrifying direction.

Book 2 of the Father Gunter, Demon Hunter series

The Raven Flies at Night is book 2 of the Father Gunter, Demon Hunter, series by Janine R. Pestel. This is a short book, it has a bit of comedy as well as horror to it. The book picks up where Bucktown Babes leaves off at the end of book 2. Father Gunter and his sidekick to to speak Bob are on the trail again, this time the demon is in the small town of Mountainview. The town is being over run by sadness, suicide, and ravens. They are given a talisman to help them rid the town of the demon.

John H Fehskens narrates the book and in my opinion does a great job with each of the character voices as well as the narration itself. He kept my interest throughout the story.

enjoyed this as much as the first one

These are fun books and I've enjoyed both that I've heard Has some supernatural in it and the characters are pretty good. I like the demon hunting ex-priest and his sidekick works great. All in all, I look forward to the next one.

Very Interesting

It took me a little bit to really get into this book, but the twists and turns were really awesome once it got into the story. I wasn't a fan of the sound effect because there were points where it was hard to hear the narrator over the screaming tires or the loud car noises and such. It it didn't blast your ears i think it would have pretty great!

Birds

I totally enjoy the characters of Father Gunter and Robert in this supernatural series. In this book there are suicides occurring almost daily in town of Mountainview. The sign for suicide going to occur is the arrival of the ravens. Father Gunter has run ins with the demon and his helpers while he still is trying to get his sister Theresa back from the demon (she does makes a brief appearance). I cannot wait until Nightmares to see what Johann, Robert and now Belinda come against. Recommend to anyone who likes the supernatural. This book was given to me by author and I provided this voluntary review. THANK YOU!

Gunter and Bob are back

This story picks up right after the last story. Since we already met Gunter, no H, and Bob in the last chapter this one starts out with them getting another case quite quickly. The plot is quite similar, although it is a completely different story and in my opinion even better than the first. While these books are a series and sequential you can listen to this one without hearing the first, it would help to get the backstory and the overall plot, but not entirely needed.
The overall plot is better than the first and Gunter is still trying to find his sister. There isn’t much mystery in this story as it is fairly easy to figure out who is who and what is going on. Even with that it is continues the overall story arc and I look forward to seeing where this is going next.
Bob is by far my favorite character. A fat mortician who is scared of everything and is the sidekick of a demon hunter. He isn’t super funny but offers some comic relief to a degree. I find his hysterical even though he isn’t actually trying to be funny.
This one has quite a bit of sound effects. Some of it was a bit much but some of it really enhanced the story. I liked hearing all the birds and the tires squeal. As with the last book, Fehskens’s character voices are top notch and he continues to voice each of the characters differently which really makes this narration first class. I still think Bob’s voice is my favorite.

A great second novel.

Still loving the characters. This story includes some quiet humor. The new mission, with a new totally different demon is very entertaining and not the least bit repetitive of the first volume. We don’t totally escape the first book with the re-appearances of our old enemies. The story of Father Gunter and his sister continues to develop nicely. The increasing involvement of the reporter is intriguing and leaves us wanting to learn more. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Father Gunter Rides Again

Father Gunter is pretty bada$$...for a priest. It seems he's got his mojo back and is determined to find his sister. The demons, however, have different ideas. And their not above telling him so and using Theresa as a tool whenever possible.

Johan and Robert head to the town of Mountainview after seeing a news story by Father Gunter's trusted prime time news team to see why its residents keep killing themselves. There they meet Father Nelson and soon find out there are some heavy hitters in town who have big plans for Mountainview and don't want Father Gunter interfering. These demons won't be happy until everyone in town is either dead or crazy. With Robert at his side, Father Gunter doesn't waste any time taking on whoever he needs to in order to send the demons back to where they came from.

This was a fun listen and a nice diversion from some heavier reading I've been doing. I would still like to see the dialogue be more fluid and flow more realistically when read out loud. It has a stiff ring to it and doesn't sound the way people really speak. I would also like it if this book was at least two hours longer and gave more detail and was more nuanced throughout the entirety of the story and if some time was spent on backstory through the use of flashbacks or conversation for both Robert and Johan. We, the readers, need to get to know these characters and identify with them and their history in order to continue to root for them.

Having said all that, it was fun to listen to and a well developed plot with above average narration. I love the way John Fehskens voices Father Gunter. The rest of the narration is done well, too. I'm looking forward to the next Father Gunter listen!

I received this audiobook for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A Strong Follow Up To Book One.

Book two is a strong, fast-paced entry in the series. Gunter and Robert are still trying to find Gunter’s sister, Theresa. The duo gets sidetracked and find themselves in the town of Mountainview where the entire population seems to be either going crazy or suffering from depression. There is also an unusual number of ravens in Mountainview. Ravens that seem to be keeping tabs on Gunter and Robert.

Narrator, John H. Fehskens returns for book two and does a good job with the material. The bottom line is that “The Raven Flies at Night” is a nice bit of escapism to divert your attention from whatever you have going on in your life that you need to take a break from. I will definitely check out book three when it becomes available.
