Publisher's summary

Rosie was always told her red hair was a curse, but she never believed it. She often dreamed what it would look like under a white veil with the man of her dreams by her side. However, her life takes a harrowing turn in 1944 when she is forced out of her home and sent to the most gruesome of places: Auschwitz.

Upon arrival, Rosie’s head is shaved and along with the loss of her beautiful hair, she loses the life she once cherished. Among the chaos and surrounded by hopelessness, Rosie realizes the only thing the Nazis cannot take away from her is the fierce redhead resilience in her spirit. When all of her friends conclude they are going to heaven from Auschwitz, she remains determined to get home. She summons all of her courage, through death camps and death marches to do just that.

This victorious biography, written by Nechama Birnbaum in honor of her grandmother, is as full of life as it is of death. It is about the intricacies of Jewish culture that still exist today and the tender experiences that are universal to all humanity. It is a story about what happens when we choose hate over love.

One of the best

I recommend this book to everyone!! One of the best I’ve listened to! The epilogue, of all things, tugged at my heart and brought tears to my eyes.

Sooooo good!

I cried the whole time. The story itself and the narrator brought the book to life. What a great legacy to leave us.

Absolutely essential read for all!!!

This true story exposes the reality of what happens when we forget we are all made in Gods image and that the life He creates is precious. I will be forever impacted by it and will remember that we are One people and endeavor to not allow this kind of history repeat itself.

Heartbreaking and a good reminder.

Very difficult to hear due to the sobering subject but a testimony to what we can survive and overcome despite cruelty. More hatred is not the answer.

So glad I listened.

This is a compelling true story that is beautifully written. Rosie is an inspiring character. I’m so glad she’s real! At first I wasn’t sure I liked the narration, but I’m glad I gave it a chance. It really was a stunning, dramatic performance by the narrator.

A story of strength

I have read many stories of WWII and specifically of concentration camp survivors. This story is well written; it’s simple and clear without being overdramatized. Don’t get me wrong, it is definitely an emotional read but this topic is always emotional. It’s thought provoking and makes me want to be a better person.

Wonderful narration

I felt at times like I was with Rosie. Couldn’t put it down. Such a devastated life for them

The scripture before each chapter

This is one book to be read by the hateful people in our world. Maybe they will understand what has happened and not allow it to be repeated!
