The Boy lives in a cottage with his mother and father, and the Dragon lives in a cave on the Downs. The Boy is his only friend. The Dragon is not at all the sort of Dragon one might expect to meet, however: he's polite and friendly.

An enchanting story and parable for children of all ages, which is made even more delightful by that master of narrators, Anton Lesser.

Grandkids (5 and 7) and I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and the narrator was delightful! Good vehicle for discussion - why do so many folks want to fight or watch others fight? Isn’t there a better way? Even though the solution was not an entirely honest one, it was a win for all involved. Perfect for an hour-long car ride.

Wonderful!

Both my grandson and I loved this short story. We listened to it on a short road-trip we took together today. The performance was great as were the descriptions of the characters especially the dragon. I really liked the fact that the dragon was more interested in poetry than fighting battles. Left me with a smile on my face.

Loved it!!!

Encourage youngsters to listen to a fun tale about a dragon. This will become a frequent request by kids with an active imagination.

A book that had me laughing and nervously expecting the worst but, thankfully, my expectations weren't met.

I LOVED this story.

If you can listen to the audiobook Anton Lesser is marvelous.

A charming dragon meets a witty boy 🎆👏🎆

One day a dragon who boasts blue scales and a preference for poetry rather than "ramping" starts living in a cave on the downs near the home of a boy who loves reading books, especially natural history and fairy tales. What will happen when the normal people living in the town, you know, the kind who love watching fights, baiting animals, punishing villains, and exterminating pests become aware of the dragon? Will the boy be able to arrange everything to everyone's satisfaction? Grahame's story is a humorous revision of usual tales featuring dragons. Although it threatens to become a wee bit precious at times, it's mostly charming, and its themes about human nature are keen. And the reading by Anton Lesser is fine.
