About this listen

One quest. One crown. One shattered heart.

The Royal Trials were never meant to be easy, not even for an imposter like Rybet Waise. But nothing could have prepared her for the magical storms, mutated animals, and malicious gods standing in her way.

There is no time for tears. Mere hours after being bathed in Prince Alexander’s blood, Rybet must embark on a quest. The second trial dictates she find a missing magical artefact - Queen Ophelia’s crown.

Released from the overbearing confines of the royal palace, Rybet competes not only with the other remaining ladies, but also with the land itself. Magic is more volatile than ever, and the gods have come out to play.

Royal love interests who don’t know how to share only make things harder for this dirty pond-dweller - if that’s really all she is.

Rybet will do whatever it takes to make it out alive, and with her heart unbroken.

Didn’t see that coming

I love this series and author! This book did take on a different feel than the first, however, it progressed the book more than it being anything negative.

Themes foreshadowed in the first book were brought to light but, there were several things that completely went different than I was expecting.

I love this duet narration, and the narrators themselves are great.

Overall, I loved this book and can’t wait for the next to be released!

Simmering

This second book is gaining more steam. She does go “all the way” with one of the princes. What I love is the story. The group is figuring out who is friend and who is foe and the MFC finds out who she really is and somewhat her role in bringing the kingdom back. Im still a little confused about the magic so hopefully it will become clearer in the next book. Reading some of the reviews I noticed a lot of people complaining about the male narration. Yes the male voices are a little off but I didn’t really dislike it either.

Overall 3 1/2 ⭐️

I read book one and opted to listen to this one since at the time of review it was on Audible Plus. I’ve read/listened to other books by this author and compared to those this one is a little to sweet for my tastes. That’s not a bad thing at all just not my usual. I like my stories with a little more push and pull between the main leads and while there is jealousy between the guys everything else was a little to easy. Overall I’m rating 3 1/2 which for me means I enjoyed it but didn’t love it. I’m still going to continue because I want to see them get their HEA and book three is included in AP too.
Narration is duet which is a plus. Both narrators do a good job. The male sounds a little too old for the princes IMO.

3.5 stars

It felt like this middle installment was shorter than the first book, or it at least went by faster. But there was a lot revealed in it. Even if some of that was plot points that most readers should have figured out fairly quickly on their own. I am enjoying the story though, and can't wait to jump into book 3. Where I'm hoping for a bit more group action to take place.

It may just be me

I want to love this series! Tate is hands down my fave author, so I’m struggling with not falling in insta-love. I just don’t feel particularly connected to the characters or the story line. Maybe I’m not in the right headspace for it. I don’t know, but just not a fave.
