About this listen

Retired Special Forces officer Brad Taylor's thrilling new short story sets Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill on a hunt for an ancient Mayan temple and reveals the origin of their archaeological company, the cover for their clandestine work with the Taskforce.

Deep in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, a huge protected tract of rain forest in Northern Guatemala, lies the mythical Temple of Priests. Only one man knew of the temple's location, but he was killed before he could relay the coordinates. Now, newly reinstated Taskforce operator Pike Logan has the grid location of the ruins, and he's convinced Jennifer Cahill to travel to Guatemala in search of the Mayan temple her uncle died trying to find.

But Pike and Jennifer are not the only ones heading into the rain forest in search of hidden treasure. A Canadian mining company is determined to explore the Biosphere for rare-earth metals, even if it means destroying the way of life for local villagers. When they learn that Pike and Jennifer's impending historical discovery might thwart their plans, it sets the newly minted team on a crash course with a group of men hellbent on getting their hands on the prize, no matter the cost.

Acceptable Two Hour Entertainment

Engaging story with some refreshing twists.
Actually puts forth a woman in a role normally owned by men. a great place to begin. Pike, an ex-mikitary operator belonging to the Taskforce, shows none of the chauvinist cliches that most tales in this genre include. That is commendable. The characters, though true to the type cast in such stories are presented well.
I can see this short book as a sort of prequel of things to come. Jennifer and Pike, co-owners of a company that does archeological research for their clients, but which is secretly a front for Taskforce adventures. Pike has trained Jennifer to be as effective as he is. Bring on the adventures .

Excellent - I enjoy the short stories

I enjoy the short stories - especially those that build the 'back story' of the series -

This is a fast listen with enough adventure and history to keep you interested -

Great, as usual!

THE RUINS is a short story that goes back to early in the Pike Logan series when Jennifer Cahill is invited to join the taskforce as its first female member. Pike and Jennifer had already formed their archeological investigations company. Rich Orlow narrates.

You Can't Go Wrong With This

This was a readers book. I was happy with the characters, backgrounds and story. And I was happy to see that there were more to the series. If you can't take the good guy being good and winning the good fight then this may not be the book for you. The Narration by Rich Orlow was spot on.

Excellent short story.

One of the better Brad Thor Task Force books I’ve enjoyed recently. Probably wouldn’t pay a full credit for it for 3 hours though.

...great short story, well worth the time!

Audiobook Review - The Ruins - Brad Taylor
I really enjoyed this short story - “The Ruins” by former Army Special Forces officer turn author, Brad Taylor. This fast read sets main characters Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill on a hunt for an ancient Mayan temple and eventually reveals the origin of their archaeological company, which is the cover for their clandestine work with the Taskforce. It is an engaging short story with some refreshing twists and enough adventure and history to keep readers interested. It actually features Jennifer in a role normally owned by men. Pike Logan, a former Special Forces operator and leader of the Taskforce team, shows none of the chauvinist cliches that most tales in this genre usually include. Hats off to Taylor for writing this into this story. Pike has trained Jennifer to be as effective as he is and this really adds to the series, a female “badass” that is part of a special operations unit. The other characters in this series are true to form and are presented well too. This was an adventurous short story that build the 'back story' of the series and showcased Jennifer’s capabilities. It’s worth a listen or a read…

Not a bad short story

Not a bad short story. Wish it would have come in the correct order along the other books though.

Annoying

Not worth one credit for a short back story which we already knew 90% of!
