About this listen

***Now a USA Today Bestseller***

Two sisters. One secret. A daring wartime journey…

Desperate to escape their stepfather’s house, sisters Amy and Lillian stow away aboard a train full of children being evacuated from London and the threat of Hitler’s bombs.

Arriving in the seaside town of Worthing, they are taken in by kindly Norah and her husband Jim.

With their future now entrusted to strangers, can the girls finally find a safe harbour in these dark days of war?

And will they find the strength to confront what they have been running from, when their past finally catches up with them?

An absolutely heartbreaking and uplifting wartime story of courage, sisterhood and the power of love. Perfect for fans of Shirley Dickson, Glynis Peters and Lisa Wingate.

Each character was well defined. Narrater was easy to understand & did each character voice/accent well. If you enjoy WWII stories, I think you will like this book

Great WWII homefront story

Set in WW2 this story tells about the common people and what they went through. Two little runaway sisters find a home with a policeman and his wife. The activity around their house has funny things , serious things and interesting things happen. I really don't know how they did it.

Good WW2 story

There were plenty of twists and turns here, and the characters were well drawn. Warning: references to sexual violence are disturbing, but I found the story interesting.

Interesting story, Suspenseful

Story arc was traumatic and resolved in a somewhat lazy and disappointing manner. Would not recommend unless it’s free.

Very forgettable

Fantastic book! I couldn’t wait to get to the end to know the outcome but at the same time didn’t want it to end.

The story was interesting; narrator's calm voice can put you to sleep! Another narrator for male voices would have made it even better.

Good story, don't listen while tired

Historic Novel with a different twist. Likable characters and one very detestable one. Surprising end.

Not predictable, had me guessing til the end.
