About this listen

No self-respecting Head of Ranch Security would be caught dead sleeping on the job...so when Slim catches Hank asleep, not once but TWICE, Hank knows something sinister is afoot. And, if that's the case, then odds are that Pete the Barncat is involved. Later that day, the case takes an interesting twist when Hank learns that Pete has been missing for two days! Worried about her precious kitty, Sally May asks Slim and Hank to find and rescue Pete from whatever trouble he might’ve found himself in. However, when Hank runs into his old friends Wallace and Junior the buzzards, he learns that Sinister the Bobcat might also be on Pete’s trail…and he’s not interested in returning Pete to Sally May!

Good, but not quite up to the standards of earlier books in the series.

Hank the Cowdog is always a great read. However, the more recent books just haven’t been quite as good as the older ones are.

It almost seems like the author is trying too hard at this point.

Specifically, it has always been a trope that Hank becomes sidetracked and starts rambling. In this book (and the past several), there are times where this goes on way too long. It stops being funny, and almost becomes annoying. I find myself mentally telling him to stop talking and get on with the story. There’s no real action for the first third of the book.

Once we get to the action, this book is as good a story as any in the series, with several unexpected twists and a great ending. We even get to see a side of Hank that doesn’t show very often. It just takes a while to get there.

I’d definitely recommend if you’re a Hank fan, but if you’re a new reader, start with the older books.

Sinister makes a comeback!

This was completely adorable and one for the long time fans for sure! Some of the older characters make an appearance with a nice surprise for sinister too. Clever ending!

Good stuff

Reading this book profoundly changed my perspective on life. The author's experiences in extreme adversity and their insights into finding purpose despite suffering inspired me to reevaluate my own struggles. The book taught me the importance of finding meaning in every moment, even the challenging ones. It encouraged me to approach adversity with a sense of purpose rather than despair. The emphasis on the power of choice in shaping our reactions to circumstances made me more mindful of my attitudes. The author's ideas on a specific form of therapy influenced me to pursue more meaningful personal and professional goals. I became more empathetic towards others, understanding that everyone faces their own battles. The book's message about the resilience of the human spirit gave me strength during difficult times. It also helped me prioritize relationships and connections with others. Ultimately, the book instilled in me a deeper sense of gratitude and a renewed passion for living authentically.
