Publisher's summary

Irish islander Caitlin Conner has been in love with professor of Irish folklore Liam O'Sullivan for as long as she can remember. But just when he is starting to look at her as more than a friend, a mysterious woman arrives on Seal Island and captures his heart. As Caitlin discovers the truth behind the woman's lies, she realizes Liam is trapped in a dangerous enchantment and the only way to break the spell is to uncover a secret Irish fairy tale that has remained hidden for hundreds of years. But when the petals of a white rose grown in winter start to fall, the legend is set in motion, and Caitlin must find a way to change the ending before the last petal falls.

The Selkie Enchantress

I loved this book! The great narration by Hollis McCarthy pulls you into the setting of beaches, seals and selkies.A woman and her child show up on the Island in winter.Over a storm and a power outage we hear about selkies, changlings etc.The boy has no memories and reveals he lives in the sea.Liam is supposed to be with Kaitlin, but the strange woman has enchanted him to want her. There are twists and turns but we figure it all out in the end.

Exceptional

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It was a beautiful story and the narration was smooth and engaging.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Caitlin is my favorite character because she is a strong heroine with depth and I was cheering for her throughout the book, and I wasn't let down.

Can't wait for the next one!

Great sequel to the Selkie Spell. A twisty, turny storyline, with interesting characters you find your self rooting for. Very well narrated.

The selkie enchantress

If you could sum up The Selkie Enchantress in three words, what would they be?

Listening to those two books is like "time-travelling". It reminds me of a younger me, when I fell in love with romance fiction. The perfect writing, the celtic folklore inspiration, the well-rounded characters, the female friendships... all of that reminds me of the first romance I read. It's totally worth stepping into the magical world of Sophie Moss. A Great Romance!

Blend of Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid!

Any additional comments?

The Selkie Enchantress by Sophie Moss is a wonderful follow up to the first book in the Seal Island Trilogy, The Selkie Spell. The story centers on Caitlin and Liam, who are Dominic’s (the bar owner in Selkie Spell) best friend and his brother who works in Galway as a professor. As the story unravels, we learn that Caitlin and Liam were romantic as teenagers. While they remained friends over the years, they rekindled their romance starting on Tara and Dominic’s wedding day. After months of long-into-the-night conversations, Liam decides to move back to the island. But, on the ferry ride back to Seal Island, he meets Nuala, who casts him under her spell, making him forget all about Caitlin and his decades-long love for her.

The Selkie Enchantress far exceeded my expectations and was better than the first story in the trilogy. It is a wonderful mix of fairy tale and mystery. It’s a blend of Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid. Like in most fairy tales, you can’t help but sympathize with Nuala, who attempts to steal Liam for herself. Like Caitlin, Nuala made some bad decisions when she was a teenager. I’d love to know what happened to her!

As with the first book, Hollis McCarthy did an outstanding job narrating. Her lilting Irish accents accentuated the story, giving it a fairytale quality. Hollis had differing voices for all of the characters, and her narration flowed naturally and kept the story moving. I can’t wait for book #3 in audio!

Nice but not what I expected

I really enjoy this series, such rich myth from Ireland mixed with modern times. I love all the engaging and dynamic characters.

Here we have the love story of Caitlin and Liam, who we met in the first book as supporting characters. I had an issue with their story because it goes in a direction other than is implied in the first book. Through their own thoughts and those of their friends, you get the picture of unrequited love. That is not how things are presented here, this book tells of encounters between the two over the span of years. That bothered me, because it was not the first impression I was given.

Aside from my major issue, I did enjoy the story and all the drama mixed in from the fairytale. It was a great mixed narrative, giving POV from the leads and supporting characters. This made for a richer read that includes the reader in all events. I loved being in all their heads and understanding their motivations. It makes you empathize with one of the antagonists. Hard to hate her when you know her story and why she feels she has to do what she does. I do wish there were an epilogue for her.

There are a few heart wrenching moments along the way. Have tissues handy, just in case you get weepy.

The bedroom door is open of the one smexy scene. Not full on erotic detail, but enough to make ya blush!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollis McCarthy, who delivers another delightful performance. I adore her lilting Irish accents. Such wonderful variety throughout. There are a few spots where they get less distinct, notably when conversing with an American character. That is the only nitpicking I have. The pace flows with the story and keeps the movement of the story intact.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, just a bit disappointed it wasn't what I expected of the romance. I am very eager to see the results of the next romance. That will definitely finish this trilogy with a bang!!
