A #1 Amazon Charts bestseller and Prime Reading’s most read book of 2018.

In this multimillion-copy bestselling series from #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh, former prosecutor Morgan Dane faces the most personal - and deadly - case of her lifetime.

After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity - until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.

Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

Perfect in every way!

This book kept my attention to the very end! Well done suspenseful story line. Just what I was looking for. I will definitely read more books written this author. I would definitely recommend this this title as a good read.

Too much romance

Way too much about the developments of the romantic relationship along the story. The detective part itself lacks the mystery.
But good overall.

A bit of a let down

I liked the beginning of the book, but the end felt rushed and wrapped up to quickly.

White Bread For The Masses

This book was okay. It kept me engaged enough to listen through to the end. Got a little sappy in the last few chapters but, overall, it was an okay listen. Several notches below really good, and definitely not brilliant. Formulaic may best describe it.

Unexpected surprise

Cris Dukehart narrates this book perfectly. Was in desperate search of a crime podcast replacement and this satisfied!

I hope she gets better.....

This wasn't the WORST mystery I've ever read, but it was close. Actually the mystery elements were fair but the "romance" was really horrible. No woman has her ovaries hurt because of a man - SO STUPID! Come ON Ms. Leigh!

Predictable

I was disappointed with inflection and tone of narration and got quite bored listening at times and had to rewind to repeat and attempt to stay interested. The story itself was ok- just a difficult listen. Didn’t hook me and pull me in, found the ‘romance’ to be superfluous and forced in the book- overall just ok, wouldn’t listen to this author or narrator again.

Entertaining!

I liked the story very much. It was well-paced and there were enough red-herrings to make the ending somewhat surprising. One thing I did not like was the reader’s “male” voices. I guess I don’t think they need to deepen their voice for those of another gender. When I read, the voice in my head is just fine without a change!

STOP!!! This is a great book so don't pass it up.

loved this book it had a nice steady pace, good from beginning to the end. The was my first time reading one of the author books but it definitely won't be the last. The narrators did a great job with the voices and personalities of each character.

Looking forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series, I hope it has the same narrators reading/performing.
