Publisher's summary

Twenty actors, sound effects, and a musical score bring this full cinematic audiobook to life.

In 1969, a group of genetically enhanced teens is unleashed upon an already hectic world. These kids—these “Shadows”—begin violently reshaping political landscapes, from Vietnam to the civil rights struggle. Standing a cut above her peers is a girl named Erin Escalante. Having grown jaded with the life of an assassin, she and her closest allies are ready to finally use their skills for the greater good. Standing in their way is the organization that created them, and the seemingly unstoppable army of monsters at their disposal.

Original and Captivating!

This was very fun to listen to from start to finish! Expect to laugh and maybe even shed a tear through this audible experience....and an experience it is...with the score, so many different voices, and sound effects...if you close your eyes, you can see it all unfolding! This story involves teenagers with supernatural powers trained to be emotionless assassins...who you can't help but to feel so much for...I'm very curious to see what this author does next!

A great addition to an amazing series

The Shadow War is fun, adventurous and compelling. Each page leaves you wanting more and more and the author does not disappoint. The tale takes you deep into the crazy world of the assassins as they navigate the dark and politically charged world set in the late 60’s.

Superb story and cast of characters

The adventure continues but this time with teens/kids that hide in the shadows. The world is in chaos and these teens/kids begin reshaping the political landscape through violence. Erin Escalante and her friends have moved from being assassins to changing the political world through violence to doing good. Their adventure is just beginning as they fight to change the wrongs and create new opportunities.

The author, Steven Cortinas once again provides an entertaining book filled with unlikely heroes and situations. Building a story around such characters is well done and exciting. The dialogue was well done and sounded authentic a did the characters and their relationship.

The narrator, Isheba Renee takes the lead in narration and the lead character of Erin is performed by Andrea Barthel. Barthel gives a solid performance as Erin. The other narrators each assume individual characters capturing their essence and moving the story forward steadily and consistently. Using their wide range of voices, they are able to keep the story moving forward.

Overall this audiobook is interesting with the twist of adding in children and the storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and look forward to the next in the series by Cortinas and his team of performers. While I am not a fan of theatrical performances, Cortinas has done an excellent job of bringing everything together smoothly and blending the storyline, characters, and theatrical performance together well.

There were no issues with the production or quality of this audiobook. It was well done.
