About this listen

The daughter of a vampire and sister of a devil walking, Valerie finds out she has something neither her brother nor her father possesses: she has honor.

Now, she needs to flee a brother who leaves her for dead. Because, if there is one thing Valerie understands it's that justice doesn't turn the other cheek.

One hundred fifty years after a near apocalypse, the world is rebuilding. Survival has become the only rule, and justice is in short supply. Now, justice has come calling.

Vampires, Weres, and A**-Cat, Oh My!

This review is for both the audio and ebook as I have both and switched back and forth during reading/listening. Holy crap, Batman! I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. I love action packed stories and New that Justin always delivers on that. I haven't read any of Michael's work but love the part of his world he has shared in this. These two authors go together like a Reece's peanut butter cup. It's like they were meant to write together! I loved it. I normally read Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance. This has a touch of both. For some reason, men authors always seem to tease with the romance. And just when things are getting really good, they switch gears. Of course, it wouldn't really be appropriate for the world surrounding the characters. All I know is, if they ever decided to write a paranormal romance book with Royland and Cammie, I know all the readers in the various FB groups I'm in would go wild! It would be a number one seller. Royland was my favorite character. Followed up by one that appears at the very end. I can't name him or I will spoil it. Our heroine, Valerie is really tough but in some ways, Sandra was my favorite. She runs a close second in being the heroine. I loved Cammie also. Sergeant Wallace is another wonderful guy, I'm partial to cops since my hubby was one for so many years. It was nice to see how Wallace chose to follow the honorable route and not go with the crowd. After all, cops are so underpaid. So we know he was truly working for the good of the people. But he is just a small side character. All the characters and world was so well developed and rich that I feel I know them all. This is a dystopian like world with airships that make me think of steampunk. I went into this thinking vampires and weres, oh my! As in my normal Supernaturals. Boy did I get a nice surprise! If I would've known before hand that this is in a different category, I'm not sure it would appeal to me. Only because I've never tried this genre or whatever you would call it. But I am so glad I read it and hope anyone reading this review will try it, no matter what you normally read. You will love "ass-cat" Diego. Lol. It was fun to see the girls tease him with their name calling. There were lots of lol moments. I hated Donovan. I will say that at the end, you get to see justice served. The title is fitting. And oh how I hope and pray the authors write a smutty book with some of these characters, especially our last guest that showed up at the end. Sorry for rambling, words can't do justice to how good this book was and I don't want to give away any spoilers. The narration was awesome. This is one of the best narrators I've ever listened to. And she can do so many different voices. I was blown away.

Excellent New Series

What made the experience of listening to Justice Is Calling the most enjoyable?

Loved this title as their was a very good mix of details with regular action scenes with plenty of little insights into how the everyones relationship mattered.
A supernatural female warrior is not new ,but making it all about saving the humans and gain some honour for the main character whilst stopping the reversal of fortunes for the supernatural races was an inspired idea.
Placing it in the future with a broken society gives it a great chance to add in lots of futuristic tech whilst maintaining the sword, skill and gun play that is a pleasure to listen to.

This title was gifted to me and I have decided to give an honest review and as such is my own opinion.

What other book might you compare Justice Is Calling to and why?

This stands out as something new

What does Kate Rudd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Narration is excellent especially as their is so many strong females in this story which suits Kate. She does a good job with the male and female voices as well

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Lots of smile to the face moments

Any additional comments?

As soon as i finished this i was straight away looking to see what was available for more, definitely the best sign of a great story.

Excellent performance!

I have read "Justice Is Calling" twice prior to the release on audio book. I really enjoyed this addition to the Kutherian Gambit world. The story is engaging and the charactors well faceted and interesting. While I enjoy reading stories I truly love a good performance by an narrator. What makes a narrator stand out is the ability to provide the different voices and emotions of the chatactors. I found this true of Kate Rudd. Nothing is more disappointing than a bland reader of a favorite story. My only concern for the audio series within the Kutherian world is if Michael's voice will be the same in all of the books he will be part of. I highly reccomend this audio book to both those who read it themselves and for those who prefers only the audio version.

Love it.

A dystopian world, vampires weres and a woman on a quest to fight her past. What is not to love. Kate Rudd gave the book a wonderful voice and brought the characters with individuality to live.

Bad ass women continue to fight!

This post-apocalyptic book is action packed and fast paced. The characters were just phenomenal. Valerie, our heroine, was so kick-ass and loyal and honorable. She would make Beth Ann proud! Valerie was beaten and left for dead by her brother, Donovan. Yet, she is still determined to protect the innocence from his butchery, so she travels to the USA to prepare for his coming. The battles were simply awesome

Sandra, Valerie’s former slave, is now a dear friend. She is a frail human who is an expert sniper who watches everyone’s back.

These women go out to fight for the innocent against a darkness that has not regard for life. The fight scenes are reminiscent of the Beth Ann series

My kind of book

I have been a Sci-Fi / Fantasy fan since the 1960's. I really like the development of Valerie's character in this book. It's a new take on the Kurtherian Gambit Series.I started reading the Bethany Anne series, but could not find more books past the 3rd at the time, so moved on to other books. I did re-discover more of the series, but my problem is I tend to read or listen to a lotof books, and get diverted. This series has grabbed my attention: No skipping ahead to get through parts I don't want read (for various reasons I won't list).
I just wish the fifth book was available at Audible, because I read through the books too quickly!

REALLY REALLY GOOD!

Wow I really liked this book. Valerie is badazz! Love a smart, beautiful heroine that can kick some butt!

This book was full of action, bad guys, vamps, weres, a little romance and a lot of fantastic dialogue! Especially, some of Valerie's sarcasm, loved it! Cracked me up!

She wanted to get away and then get revenge on her brother. She did that for sure and along the way a fantastic story happened. I have already started the second book in the series.

I also see that there was a series before this I am totally going to check out.If you like action and strong female lead characters you will enjoy this book for sure.

As for the narration, it was fantastic! I loved Kate Rudd narrating this book. She did a superb job on Valerie's voice as well as the men's voices. She reads with emotion and made this great book even better! Thank you Kate Rudd.

post-apocalyptic world with vampires & werewolves

Valerie and her brother are both part of the ruling family of vampires.  When her brother attacks her and leaves her for dead, she has no choice but to leave her home and take the long trip to New York.  The world is slowly rebuilding after a world-wide apocalypse 150 years ago.  Europe is run by vampires, but the New World, though it has its share of vampires, is far further along in rebuilding.  Valerie has to get there before her brother and his soldiers, who want to conquer it for their clan.

Valerie is rare in that she has an innate sense of justice, something unknown in the vampire world, and vows to protect the people of New York.  If she doesn’t succeed, the New World will be plunged into the chaotic Hell that is Europe, which will turn the humans into nothing more than walking food.

This is an interesting story in that it mixes a post-apocalyptic world with vampires and werewolves.  It is both sci-fi and horror in equal measures.  There is plenty of action, including a swashbuckling battle aboard warring dirigibles, hordes of mindless vampires called Nosferatu and hostile werewolves.  The characters are likable and well developed.  We listen as Valerie, already extremely capable, learns about her growing powers.  It is ultimately a battle of good versus evil.

The story is performed by Kate Rudd who does an excellent job.  She is easy to listen to and her character voices match what the listener expects them to sound like.  She holds the mood well and the characters are easily discerned.  An excellent performance.

This unusual story should appeal to vampire enthusiasts, action junkies and fantasy/sci-fi fans alike.  It is a fun twist on the traditional vampire stories.  The book wraps up nicely but will have you excited to listen to the next books in the series.  Recommended.

Wait for it...

The only reason I finished listening to this book and not return it was because it had Michael Anderle's name on it. For the most part it was just a name drop. It wasn't until the very end that it became worth it. Stick it out (I mean almost the very end), you'll be glad you did.
