About this listen

Wind down by escaping into nature. Part soundscape and part bedtime story, The Sleeping World is an intimate journey through ecologies around the world.

Elephants are the largest land animals in the world. They are also intensely social and have advanced long-term memories. In this episode, a parade of Asian elephants makes its way through the Sri Lankan forest to a lake for drinks and mud baths, stopping periodically for group naps. The female leading the parade uses infrasonic rumbles—inaudible to humans, but traveling as far as two miles along the surface of the Earth as seismic waves—to invite friends and family around the forest to join her at the reservoir.

This is the world in its natural state, defined by seasons, routines, and cycles. By the time the elephants are done socializing, covered in fresh mud, and ready to doze again, you’ll be ready to doze too.

The beautiful mellow soundscape and narration was perfect. Exquisite imagery and peace. I never have trouble falling asleep, but if I did, I would definitely listen to this and unwind magnificently.

Great, relaxing. The elephant fart made me giggle. Slept great, didn’t make it to the end. ZZZZ

I liked the narrators voice , the mix of facts and details , the beautiful descriptions of the scenery, and the background sounds. The part about the mother and baby elephant was sweet and comforting. I felt this was a Heartwarmingly simple way to fall asleep. I noticed focusing on the story instead of my to do list for tomorrow. I’ve listened to this one every night this week and always fall asleep before it ends. Focusing on my breath while listening was helpful for reducing the stress of a busy day this week. Very enjoyable, highly recommend.

Dreamy for relaxing or sleeping.

This story is so relaxing and fun. I love the sounds of Sri Lanka. The story teller has the best, most calming voice. In a review someone mentioned a shrieking noise that really startled them, I was intrigued and listened, turns out it's just a bird noise. It didn't bother me at all and I didn't think it was loud. Definitely didn't warrant a 1 star review. To each their own I guess. I thought this was one of the best in the series. Enjoy!

Three trys so far, still haven't heard it all! I fall asleep happy. Along with the excellent reader, there are gentle sounds the elephants make. A truly remarkable sleep journey ❤️
