Inspired advice. Good for the novice

This was good advice for the novice senior looking for help with direction to begin doing the estate planning process. Was it also an hour long advertisement for drawing folks into reading his books and investigating his podcast and website. Sure, BUT is was good advice And I might check his other books out. We all have choices to buy into businesses we think can offer us what we need. You too bought this audible book from this business. My point exactly!! Peace!

Self-promo, but OK as low-cost first look

The author is a very good plain-language communicator. He hits on the basic considerations for the solo ager that might not have occurred to you before, and describes a basic framework to consider putting in place. Right there, this audio book pays for itself (at its very cheap price), if you haven't thought it through much. So on that basis I recommend it, but with this definite caveat: plenty is biased toward hiring him, or someone identical to him. Not that this is necessarily the worst kind of option, and he does point out weaknesses of various "seat of the pants" alternatives. However, I would recommend if this is your first exposure to this, you also check further into less biased sources. Just as an example, it seems to me a little aggressive for him to say, if I got this right, he generally doesn't prefer powers of attorney as a component of estate plans, which even if we assume this is giving merely a loose generalized opinion and not legal advice, seems to me a little strong, as circumstances, I believe, commonly do exist for its use. He does openly state his thinking on it, which makes sense. But it can depend on the circumstances, including, conveniences as well as availability of a really trusted person. And many estate planning advisors, as he observes, do recommend it. In a short audio book, I'm not sure about this editorial choice, offered in that phrasing to strangers. It's his book, not mine, but for my part this is just to suggest you check some other resources and background too. I didn't hear the standard disclaimer (seen often in such titles) of the content not being legal advice, but that absence of course does not make the content legal advice. But again, this gets the thought process started at least, for a very low price and in a very palatable medium. And the author is very gifted at explaining things in plain terms and giving clear examples.

Smack in the face examples to light a fire under your ass!

This audiobook was the straightforward, no BS roadmap I need, not only for myself, but for my aging, stubborn father who refuses to create a will at 81. Not only has the process of trying to urge him why this is important utterly crazy-making, it’s making me think of my own estate planning while i’m still vibrant, clear-minded and smart, as a 50+ solo, child-free only child.

Hopefully the impetus to work on this together will propel some forward motion.

Bad narration but decent information to consider

I was not able to finish the book due to the over-dramatizations by the narrator. The delivery was very distracting and I just could not take the subject matter seriously. The few chapters I could digest provided basic introduction to concepts and examples. To finish, I will have hope my local library carries it.
